Professor Philips visited H o ng K o ng w i th his wife and daughter. T h is was their first visit of Ho ng Kong. Both members gave valuable suggestions to the Council and had separate discussions w i t h the Chancellor, the Vice-Chancellor, and the Presidents of the Colleges. A President James Perkins of Cornell University and M r s. Perkins and President K i n gman Brewster of Yale University and Mr s. Brewste r arrived in H o ng K o ng on August 19, 1965 to visit T h e Chinese University, D u r i ng their four-day stay, they paid a visit to the three Foundation Colleges an d the future University Campus site. On August 20, a reception was given by the Vice- Chancellor in honour o f the two distinguished visitors at the Penthouse of the Hang Seng Bank Building, Ho ng Kong. T he Chancellor, H . Fang, Vice-President of Un i t ed College, T he Chinese University of H o n g Ko n g, returned to the Colony on August, after an extensive overseas tour at the invitation of the U.S. State Department and the British Council. He began his tour three months ago w i th visits t o American universities and colleges and later attended the Wo r ld Congress on Engineering Education held in Chicago f r om June 22 to 25 under the j o i nt auspices of the American Society of Engineering Education, the Engineers Council for Professional Development, the Conference on Engineering Societies for Western Europe and the U.S. and the Pan-America n Federation of Engineering Societies. I n July, M r . Fang visited British universities as a guest of the British Council. • M r . Yu n - t o ng Fung, Assistant Lecturer in Physics, Un i t ed College, left on September 4 for T o k yo where he attended the Summer Institute of Theoretical Physics held f r om the 5th to the 18th of September, 1965. He was one of the three members of T he Chinese University attending. 7
