His wife , Violet, is the Accountant of the Bible Socieities in Hong Kong. COMINGS AND GOINGS A M r. T . C. Cheng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University and President of United College, left fo r Singapore on November 25 , 1965 to represen t the University at the installation ceremony of the Chancellor at the University of Singapore. Mr . Cheng, after attending the installation ceremony, proceeded to Kuala Lumpur for a visit to the University of Malaya. He returned on December 1’ 1965. A Dr. C.T. Yung, President of Chung Chi College, will attend the first meeting of the Join t University Education Committee of East Asia Christian Conference and the World Student Christian Federation at Jaffna, Ceylon, from 16th to 20th December, 1965. A Miss Lee Hei Man, Lecturer, and Mr. Harold Ho, Assistant Lecturer in Social Work, Chung Chi College, will take part as Hong Kong representatives in the Sub-Regional Workshop on Professional Education in Community Development to be held from December 7 to 17 , 1965, at Bangkok, Thailand. This Workshop is sponsored jointly by the Economic Commission for Asia and Far East and th e United Nations Bureau of Technical Assistance Operation ill collaboration wit h the United Nations Bureau of Social Affairs. A Dr. Chau Yiu Kee, Lecturer in Chemistry, Chung Chi College, returned on November 21 , 1965 to resume his teaching duties after completing his doctorate in Liverpool University under a British Council Scholarship. The title of his doctoral dissertation i s “ T he Determination of Inorganic and Organic Trace Constituents in Sea Water, Phytoplankton and Bio-materials". Dr. Chau has been appointed concurrently as the Chairman of the Department of Chemistry. A Dr. L i Seung Ping, Lecturer i n Physics, Chung Chi College, returned from a study leave of two an d a half years on November 22’ 1965. He had completed his doctorate at the University of Colorado under a scholarship given by the United Boar d for Christian Higher Education in Asia. The title of his doctoral dissertation is “ T he Effect of Electron Shielding on the Ionization Energy of N - T y pe I mpurity in Indium Antimonide". He has resumed his teaching duties at the College immediately after hi s return. COLLEGE REPORTS A A symposium jointly sponsored by the Cultural and the Religious Committees of Chung Chi Staf f Club will be held on Thursday, December 2, 1965 in the Chapel Lounge. The symposium will explore the topic "Responsibility of Modern Science". The speakers are: Dr. Noah E. Fehl, Dr. Joseph Huang, Dr. Masanao Kitamura and Dr. Philip Shen. A The N i n th Annual Athletic Meet of Chung Chi College was held on Friday afternoon, December 3 and on Saturday, December 4, 1965. A At the invitation of United College, the Hon. Wilfred Sien-Bing Wong, Deputy President and Chairman of the British Red Cross Society, Hong Kong Branch, gave a talk on "Red Cross and Blood Donation" to the College students and staff on November 22’ 1965. The Hon. Wilfred Wong traced the history of the British Red Cross Society and its relationship with the International Red Cross Society, with particular emphasis on the significance of blood donation. He pointed out that donation of a small amount of blood has no ill affects on the normal and healthy donor and described the popular dread of blood-giving as unfounded. His talk ended with an appeal for blood donation, to which the audience gave an enthusiastic response. A The Philips Company of Holland donated to United College an Electronics Trainer System which has greatly facilitated teaching at the College. The System was officially opened by Mr . F. van den Ak- ker, Managing Director of Philips (Hong Kong) Ltd. on October 12, 1965 at the College Science Laboratories in Caine Lane. Present at the opening ceremony were members and friends of Philips (Hong Kong) Ltd., the Consul and Vice-Consul of the Netherlands Consulate in Hong Kong, senior Government officials connected with higher education, members of The Chinese University of Hong Kong and its Foundation Colleges, members of the College Board of Trustees, Council and Academic Board. After introductory remarks by Mr. T . C. Cheng, President of the College, M r . F. van den Akker addressed the gathering. The intricate workings of the System was demonstrated by M r . Leung Chi-hong, Demonstrator in Physics. The guests then inspected the Science Laboratories, and had tea and refreshments in the garden. 9
