Mah , Chung Chi, Religious Knowledge and Philosophy. Rev. M a h was born in Toishan , Kw ang tung . He was educated in Canton, and took his degrees (B .A ., 1934, M .E d ., 1937) in N a tion a l Sun Yat-sen U n iv e rs ity . Between 1937 and 1947, he taught at L in g n a n U n i versity, N a tio n a l Sun Yat-sen U n iv e rs ity , Kw a ng tu ng P ro vin cia l College o f A rts and Sciences, Kw a ng tu ng K u o -m in U n iv e rs ity , Canton U n iv e rs ity , Graves Theo logica l Sem inary, Yuen T o B ib le College, and C oncordia B ib le College, as lecturer, associate professor, or professor. F rom 1947 to 1949, Rev. M ah was P ro fessor and Dean o f F aculty at the Southern Comm ercial College, M r . M a h has also been p rin c ip a l o f a m iddle school and a senior inspector at a P rovincia l D epartm ent o f E ducation. A fte r having served his chu rch fo r fo rty years in various capacities, the Rev. M ah was ordained m in ister on O ctober 31, 1965 by the C hurch o f C h ris t in China. Rev. M a h jo in e d Chung C h i College in 1956 as a part- tim e teacher in its e xtra-m u ral programmes and since 1957 has been a fu ll-tim e teacher in the D e pa rtm ent o f Religious K now ledge and Philosophy. F rom 1961 to 1962, he was at the P rinceton Theo logica l Sem inary and P rinceton U n iv e rs ity fo r fu rth e r study on a W o rld U n iv e rs ity Service Scholarship. S teuding jo in e d the Depa rtm ent o f E ng lish Language and L ite ra tu re o f U n ite d College as Assistant L e c tu re r in the firs t te rm o f 1965. He gives lectures on E nglish and Classical L ite ra tu re . A native o f N ew Y o rk State, M r. S teuding was born in the B ritis h colonial village o f H u rle y . T ra v e llin g th ro u g h o u t th is area w h ich nestles among the C atskill M o u n ta in s o f W ashington Irv in g 's R i p Van Winkle, M r. S teuding spent his early years as a professional musician w h ile stud ying fo r the Bachelor o f A rts Degree at St. Bernardine o f Siena College. H o ld in g two scholarships and being a m ember o f tw o honour socie ties, M r. S teuding graduated valedictorian o f his class. A fte r graduating, he m arried and began his movement across the U n ite d States, fin a lly settlin g in Los Angeles, C a lifo rn ia . T w o years o f graduate study and teaching at the U n iv e rs ity o f Southern C a lifo rn ia follow ed, d u r in g w h ich M r . S teuding devoted him se lf m a in ly to the study o f E ng lish com position and Am erican lite rature , especially E rnest H em ingway, prepa ring his M aster's thesis on th is modern Am erican w rite r. Since th e n , M r. S teuding has been w o rkin g on his D octorate and has published various articles and poems He also plans to publish a book on H em ingw ay in the next few years. M r. S teuding is a member o f the M o d e rn Language Association, the N a tion a l C ouncil o f Teachers o f E nglish, the Am erican Association o f U n iv e rs ity Professors, and the P hilo log ical Association o f the Pacific Coast. 4
