F ifty -th re e schools and colleges were represented in th is e x h ib itio n , among w h ic h were T h e T eachnical College and many Chinese and E nglish h igh schools. RADIO PROGRAMME ON THE UN IVERS ITY B eginning from J u ly th is year, the tw o U n iversities in H o ng K o n g w ill be featured in a special programme called “ U N IV E R S IT Y R E P O R T " on the E nglish channel o f Radio H ong Kong, T h e programm e o f th irty m inutes' length w ill be presented fo rtn ig h tly . T h e p u b lic w ill be in fo rm ed o f developments in the tw o local universities as w e ll as in other universities abroad. Tse, Registrar o f Chung C h i College, died o f a heart attack on June 9, 1966 at 10.30a.m. He was sixty-seven. M r . Tse had been associated w ith L in g n a n U n iv e rs ity fo r more than ten years before he took up the Registrarsh ip o f Chung C h i on the fou n d in g o f the College in 1951. H e rendered the College distinguished service and bis loss is deeply m ourned over by the whole College comm u n ity and his many friends in the U n ive rsity. T h e College is establishing a scholarship fun d in m em ory o f M r. Tse, C o n trib u tio n s to the fu n d are most welcomed. STUDY OF MODERN LANGUAGES Teach ing o f m odern languages in th is U n iv e rs ity is receiving strong suppo rt from various foreign govern ments. T h e F rench G overnm ent w ill sho rtly send a teacher o f French to the U n iv e rs ity to strengthen the U n iv e r sity's existing teaching staff. A professor o f Japanology, together w ith a num be r o f assistants, w ill soon be assigned to the U n iv e rs ity by the Japanese G ove rnm en t to prom ote the U n iv e r s ity's Japanese studies. T h e y are now being selected by the Japanese M in is try o f Education. The re is already a lectureship in German con tribu ted by the German Academ ic Exchange Service. T h e U n iv e rs ity is w e ll equipped w ith language laboratories w h ic h prove to be a valuable aid to the study o f foreign languages. STAFF PROFILES M r . Wang N in g 、N e w A s ia College, L e cturer in English Language a n d L ite ra tu re . M r . W ang N in g was born in N a n kin g and b rought up and educated in Shanghai, where he received his Beachelor o f A rts degree from St. John's U n iv e rs ity . Thence he taught at secondary and post-secondary colleges in Shanghai, Sarawark, and H o ng Kong. He jo in e d the D epa rtm ent o f E nglish o f N ew Asia College in 1958. In 1961 he was in v ite d to attend the Educational Research C o un cil o f H o ng K on g . In 1963, he attended the annual meeting o f T h e L in g u is tic Society o f Am erica, o f w h ich he is a member, and the 1963 L in g u is tic In s titu te in Seattle, W ashington. F rom September 1963 to M a y 1964 he was on a W o rld U n iv e rs ity Service fellow sh ip , doing lingu istics research at the Louisiana State U n iv e rs ity . A fte r he was award ed a M aster o f A rts degree, the Am erican C o un cil o f Learned Societies gave h im a gra n t to attend the 1964 L in g u is tic In s titu te and the Summ er M ee tin g o f T he L in g u is tic Society o f Am erica in B loom ington, Indiana. H e returned to N ew Asia in A ugust 1964. H e has w ritte n several articles on lingu istics and on the teaching o f the E nglish language, some o f w h ich are published in the N e w A s ia Academ ic J o u rn a l. Am ong these articles are : On the Teaching o f English in H o n g Ko n g , (1959); Problems o f Teaching English in Post-Secondary Colleges, (1962); Trends in Ame rican General Linguistics, (1965).
