STAFF PROFILES D r . M i c h a e l T a K ung Wei, N e w As i a College, Lecturer. D r. M ich a e l T a K u ng W ei, whose parents were from A nhw e i, was born in Changsha, H unan, in A ugust, 1932. He received his higher education at the U n i ve rsity o f M iss o u ri. A fte r graduating w ith a B.J. Degree in 1956, he went to N ew Y o rk and worked as an e d ito ria l assistant at the Chinese News Service fo r two years. He received his A LA . in 1960 and P h .D . in 1964. He was a W a lte r W illiam s F ellow at the U n iv e rs ity o f M is so u ri in 1963. T h e subject o f his dissertation was "F re e d om o f In fo rm a tio n as an In te rn a tio n a l P ro b lem ". W h ile he was w o rkin g fo r his P h .D ., he worked pa rt tim e at the Freedom o f In fo rm a tio n Center as technical assistant fo r fo u r years. In the w in te r o f 1964, he w ent to T aiw an and was appointed Associate Professor to teach jo u rn a lism at the N a tion a l Cheng C h i U n iv e rs ity . He is a L e c tu re r in jo u rn a lism at N ew Asia College since 1965. Rev. James S. W. Pun, N ew A s i a College, Assistant Dean o f Students. B orn in H o ng K o n g , the Rev. M r. Pun received his B .A . degree at H u achu ng U n iv e rs ity , W uchang, and his M .A . at S tan fo rd U n iv e rs ity , Palo A lto , C a lifo rn ia , where he was qualified as Guidance Specialist. He also attended the C hurch D iv in ity School o f the Pacific in Berkeley. In 1961 he pa rticipated in the P rogramme fo r Advanced Religious Studies as an Ecumenical F ellow at the U n io n T heo lo gica l Sem inary o f New Y o rk. M r. Pun was five years in the C iv il Service in H ong K on g , and was in m ilita ry service d u rin g the w ar as a Foreign A ffa irs Bureau's Inte rp re te rs Corps m ajor in the Y u n n a n -B u rm a area. Since graduation from H uachung U n iv e rs ity , he has served as assistant le ctu rer and the President's assistant in tha t U n iv e rs ity , p a rt- tim e le ctu re r in N ew Asia College , P rin cip a l o f St. M a rk 's S chool, S tudent A d vise r and Executive Secretary o f the College S tudent W o rk Projects Comm ittee, D ire c to r o f the S tudent C h ristian Centre, and E duca tio n Secretary o f the A ng lican Diocese o f Jesselton. He founded the St. James' Settlement, the D ischarged Prisoners A id Society, the Association o f Teachers o f Religious K now ledge, St. James' C hurch, and C hurch o f the H o ly N a tiv ity . He was made deacon in the A ng lican O rde r in 1951, and ordained priest the fo llow in g year. He is c u r re n tly a mem ber o f the Diocesan Synod's S tanding C omm ittee, and Chairm an o f its C o n stitu tio n Comm ittee. M r . Pun re -joined the staff o f N ew Asia in 1965 to be Assistant Dean o f Students in the Dean o f Students' O ffice. M r , J o h n L a m Cho-hon, Assistant L i b r a r i a n o f Un it e d College. M r. John L am C ho-hon, a 32 years old Cantonese bo rn in H o n g K on g , assumed the post o f Assistant L ib ra ria n at U n ite d College in January 1964, A fte r ob ta in in g his B .A . degree in E ng lish L ite ra tu re from the U n iv e rs ity o f H o ng K o n g in 1959 and a year's teaching in W ah Yan College, K ow lo on , M r. Lam was awarded a scholarship from the B ritis h C ouncil fo r 18 months. He attended the L ib ra ry School, M u n ic ip a l College o f N ew castle -up on -T yn e fo r a year. He later enrolled in the L ib ra ry Course o f N o rth -W e s t Polytechnic in L o nd on , w h ile serving on a v o lu n ta ry basis at the fo llow in g lib ra rie s : O rien ta l and A fric a n Studies L ib ra ry and the Senate House L ib ra ry at the U n iv e rs ity o f Lo nd on , and the B ritis h M useum in Lo nd on . He qu a lified as an Associate o f the Register o f Chartered L ib ra ria n s in 1964. Before he returned to H o ng K o n g , M r. L am toured France, G erm any and the U n ite d States’ v is itin g libraries in those countries. A fte r his re tu rn to H o ng K o n g , M r. L am also com pleted his M aster degree in Chinese L ite ra tu re at the U n iv e rs ity o f H o ng K o n g in 1965. H is M .A . thesis is " T h e R hetorical S tru ctu re o f the Chinese Irre g u la r V e r s e " ( 詞之修辭學的探討). M r. J.am is s till studying. He is preparing in his spare tim e fo r the F. L . A . (F e llow sh ip o f the L ib ra ry Association, G reat B rita in ). Before his assumption o f d u ty at U n ite d College, M r. L am was the Cataloguer fo r reference and circ u la ­ tio n at the U n iv e rs ity o f H o ng K o n g L ib ra ry fo r two years. Since his re tu rn to H o ng K o n g in 1962, M r. Lam has been a comm ittee m ember o f the H o ng K o n g L ib ra ry Association, p layin g an active pa rt in the p ro ­ m o tio n o f H o ng K o n g lib ra ry service. 5
