Δ T w o p u b l ic lectures sponsored by the Science Faculty of C h u ng Chi College were given by D r . T . C . Chan on January 3 on “ I n t r o d u c t i on to Computer” and “ Q u a n t um C h em i s t r y ”. Δ D r . Lu H u i - C h i n g, D i r e c t or of Conselling of C h u ng Chi College, w i l l give a T'ai Chi Ch'uan (shadow b o x i n g) class for the College staff members. Before D r . L u j o i n ed the College, she was the f o u n d i ng director of the T ' a i C h i Ch ' u an Studio in San Francisco. Δ T h e H o n, W i l f r ed S.B. Wo n g, a memb er of the Board of Go v e r n o rs of C h u ng C h i College and Board of Trustees of U n i t ed College was awarded an O . B . E. i n the Queen's N e w Year Ho n o u rs list. Δ T h e D r a ma C l ub of the Student U n i o n, U n i t ed College, held its annual “ D r ama N i g h t” on January 4 and staged the f o l l ow i ng plays: (a) “ T h e Bald S o p r a n o ” ,a play of the theatre of the A b s u rd by Eugene lonesco ; (b) “ T h e C o a t ”, a play in Cantonese. Δ “ T r i a l by J u r y ” w a s performed by the N ew Asia Mu s ic C l ub on December 28, 1966 at the C i ty H a l l Theatre. T h e performance was well-reviewed. STAFF PROFILES Dr. S.S. Hsueh, Reader in Public Administration D r . H s u eh received his B . A. degree w i t h honours f r om Y e n c h i ng Un i v e r s i t y, and the degrees of Lic. é sSc. Pol., and Doc. é s Sc. Pol. w i t h highest distinction f r om the Un i v e r s i ty of Geneva. D r . Hs u eh taught for a n umb er of years at the University of H o n g K o n g, and undertook post-doctorate research at O x f o rd Un i v e r s i t y. He has lectured and conducted seminars at n ume r o us academic and professional institutions in Asia, Eu r o pe and the U . S . A. Before r e t u r n i ng to H o n g K o n g in 1966, D r . Hs u eh served for three years as V i s i t i ng Professorial L e c t u r er at the Graduate School of Public A dm i n i s t r a t i on of the State Un i v e r s i ty of the Philippines, and c o n c u r r e n t ly Assistant Secretary General of the Eastern Regional Organization for Public A dm i n i s t r a t i on ( E ROP A ). Since 1960, he has been a memb er of the Ed i t o r i al Board of the EROPA Review and of the E R O P A Research Comm i t t e e. D r . H s u eh takes an active part in major international and regional academic conferences in his field in recent years. He is the p r i me mover in the organization of the Asian Political Science Association. D r . Hs u eh is the author of L ' O r g a n i s a t i on des Nations Unies et les Etats Non Membres (Graduate I n s t i t u te of I n t e r n a t i o n al Studies, Geneva, 1953) and of Go v e r nme n t and Administration of Hong Kong ( Un i v e r s i ty Book Store, H o n g K o n g, 1962). He is the editor of Public Administration in South and Southeast Asia ( I n t e r n a t i o n al I n s t i t u te of Adm i n i s t r a t i ve Sciences, Brussels, 1962) and Political Science in South and Southeast Asia (Asian Poltical Science Association, Ma n i l a, 1966). He is also a c o n t r i b u t i ng editor of Dictionary of Political Science (Philosophical L i b r a r y, N e w Y o r k, 1964.) D r . Hs u eh was elected to the memb e r s h ip of the Phi T a u Phi Scholastic Ho n o u rs Society of China, the Royal I n s t i t u te of Pu b l ic A dm i n i s t r a t i on of the U n i t ed K i n g d o m, the I n t e r n a t i o n al Political Science Association, the I n t e r n a t i o n al L aw Association, and the American Studies Association of the U . S . A. Professor Robert G. Patterson, Visiting Professor in Religious Knowledge & Philosophy. Professor Patterson was b o rn i n Japan and spent his early c h i l d h o od in Ch i na w i t h his Ame r i c an missionary parents. He returned to the U n i t ed States at the age of thirteen. He received his university education f r om Washington and Lee Un i v e r s i t y, U n i o n Th e o l o g i c al Seminary i n V i r g i n i a, and Yale Un i v e r s i t y. Since finishing residence at Yale Un i v e r s i ty in 1955, Professor Patterson has taught in the De p a r t me nt of Religion of the Southwestern Un i v e r s i ty at Memp h i s, Tennessee, I n 1959, he received a P h . D. degree f r om Yale Un i v e r s i t y, where he majored i n religion, w i t h special attention to Christian ethics. Professor Patterson is now on sabbatical leave f r om the Southwestern Un i v e r s i t y, serving as V i s i t i ng Professor to C h u ng C h i College of T h e Chinese University. Besides teaching, he is s t u d y i ng Chinese language, culture, and particularly philosophy. Professor Joseph Richmond Levenson, Visiting Professor in Oriental History Professor L e v e n s on was b o rn and had his early education i n Boston. I n 1941, he received his B . A. degree f r om Ha r v a rd Un i v e r s i t y, and in the f o l l ow i ng year j o i n ed the U . S. Na v al Reserve as a Japanese Language Officer. A f t er he left the navy i n 1946, he r e t u r n ed to Ha r v a rd to do his graduate studies and, at the same time, taught p a r t - t i me in the Un i v e r s i t y. He got his M . A . and P h . D. degree in 1947 and 1949. Professor Levenson then j o i n ed the faculty of the University of California, Berkeley, in 1951, and has been that Un i v e r s i t y 's Sather Professor of H i s t o ry since 1965. He is n ow V i s i t i ng Professor of T h e Chinese Un i v e r s i t y. Professor L e v e n s on is a memb er of the Ame r i c an Co u n c il of L e a r n ed Societies. A t one time, or another, he was a F u l b r i g ht Fe l l ow, a Fe l l ow of the Centre for Ad v a n c ed S t u dy in the Behavioral Sciences, and a Gu g g e n h e im Fe l l ow. H is publications include Liang Ch'i-ch'ao and the Mind of Modern China and Confucian China and Its Modern Fate. 9
