M r s . M o k was appointed Adm i n i s t r a t i ve Assistant of the Un i v e r s i ty in January this year, being the first Chinese Un i v e r s i ty graduate to serve the Un i v e r s i ty in its administrative staff. Assigned to the Public Relations Section of the Registry, she helps w i t h publications, receptions, press release, p u b l ic relations, and general i n f o rma t i o n. COMINGS AND GOINGS Δ D r . Da v id M . Ma y n a r d, newly appointe d part- t i me Lecturer in History, Ch u ng Chi College, arrived in H o n g K o n g on January 30, 1967, A Professor Bruce Pattison, Professor of Educatio n i n the Institute of Education of L o n d on Un i v e r s i t y, flew home on January 31 after his two weeks' stay in the Colony d u r i ng wh i ch he served as an advisor to the Un i v e r s i t y. T h e opinions Professor Pattison expressed d u r i ng the series of consultative meetings w i t h the language teachers of the Colleges, as well as his lecture on “English T o d a y ", are highly esteemed. Δ D r . Samual Chan, Lecturer in Biology , C h u ng C h i ng College, returned f r om a two-week stay in Singapore where he served as an external examiner at Na n y a ng University. A A t the invitation of the Vice-Chancellor , D r . Charles H . Peake, Vice-Chancellor for the Academic Discipline of the Un i v e r s i ty of Pittsburgh and M r s. Peake, arrived in H o n g K o n g on February 21, to discuss inter-university co-operation. Com i ng at the same t i me were D r . Burkart Holzner, Professor and Chairman, Sociology De p a r t me n t, and Professor C . K . Yang, Professor of Sociology, b o th of the Un i v e r s i ty of Pittsburgh, wh o continued to serve as consultants to the Vice-Chancellor in regard to the development of Sociology in the University. D r. C . K . Ya ng was External Examiner in Sociology for this Un i v e r s i ty i n the past 3 years. Δ Professor DeBa ry o f the Un i v e r s i ty of Co l umb ia visited N ew Asia College on February 3, w i t h M r s. DeBary. Professor DeBa ry delivered a lecture on " T h e Cu l t u r al Revolution in Commu n i st China and the Cu l t u r al Revival in T a i w a n ", at the invitation o f the Research Institute of the College. A D r . S . T. T s o u, Senior L e c t u r er i n Mathematics and Dean of the Faculty of Science at U n i t ed College, left on January 29 for the U n i t ed States and U n i t ed K i n g d om to visit the institutes of higher education there. T h e main purpose of his t r ip is to attend two Mathematics Conferences in the U n i t ed K i n g d om, namely, the Mathematics S ymp o s i um in D u r h am f r om M a r c h 20 to 23 , 1967, and the 19th British Mathematical C o l l o q u i um in Swansea f r om A p r i l 5 t o A p r i l 7 , 1967. A D r . Sutu Hs i n, Dean of th e Faculty of Commerce and Social Science, U n i t ed College, returned to H o ng K o n g on February 19 after a leave wh i ch began in September last year, d u r i ng wh i ch he visited Germany, Ho l l a n d, England as well as the U n i t ed States. D r . Sutu's t r ip to Ge r ma ny was sponsored by the Ge r man Academic Exchange Service. He attended the 14th Wo r l d Management Congress at Rotterdam and later visited universities in B r i t a in as a guest of the B r i t i sh Council. I n the U n i t ed States, where he spent four months, D r . Sutu attended a n umb er of Business Management Seminars and Conferences. D r . Sutu visited the U n i t ed States on a F o r d Foundation G r a nt awarded to h i m t h r o u gh the Un i v e r s i ty under the Faculty Development Programme. A Professor Sir Ewa rt Jones, F.R.S., V i s i t i n g Professor of Chemistry to the Un i v e r s i ty of H o n g Ko n g, visited this Un i v e r s i ty on February 21. A D r. W i l l i am H . Allaway, D i r e c t or of Education Ab r o ad Program of the Un i v e r s i ty of California, Santa Barbara, was in H o n g K o n g f r om February 7 to 10. He visited the Colleges of the Un i v e r s i ty and met the Vice-Chancellor d u r i ng his stay here. A Professor T h omas W . Harrell, Professor o f A p p l i ed Psychology of Stanford Un i v e r s i t y, arrived in H o n g K o n g on February 9, and visited the three Foundation Colleges. A D r . K i r b y Davidson, D i r e c t or of Social Science, Rockefeller Foundation, visited H o n g K o n g on February 9-11. He called at the three Colleges of the University, and met the Vice-Chancellor on February 11. A D r. and M r s. D a v id Roy visite d Ch u ng Chi College on February 22-27 on their way to Japan for a honeymoon t r ip and also for 6 months of research in Japan before r e t u r n i ng to the U n i t ed States. D r. Roy, who is at present an Assistant Professor of Chinese L i t e r a ry H i s t o ry at Princeton Un i v e r s i t y, is the son of D r . A . T . Roy, Vice-President for Public Relations of C h u ng Chi. 6
