Chang, Chairm an o f the B iology D e pa rtm e n t o f Chung C h i College, has been in vited b y Nanyang U n iv e rs ity to serve as E xternal E xam iner in B iology fo r the Degree E xam ination, 1967-68. Δ T h e A n n ua l C ro ss-H arbou r (T o lo ) Sw imm ing Contest sponsored by the Chung C h i College S tudent U n io n was held on 6th October, 1967. M r. D a vid T onge was again the men's champion, w h ile M iss C h ristine L ittle r headed the women's lis t. T h e D e - pa rtm e n t o f Sociology and Social W o rk scored the highest total. Δ T h e 2nd M u s ic Festival o f Chung C h i College, jo in tly sponsored by the S tudent U n io n and the M u sic C lub, was held from 18 to 25 October. C .T . Y un g gave the prizes, was held on 28 October, as pa rt o f the Founders' Day Celebrations. Δ On 2nd O ctober the C hung C h i College S tudent U n io n started a mandarin class, w h ich meets three times a week from 10:30 to 11 :00 a.m. A C hung C h i College has purchased, w ith a capital grant from the U n iv e rs ity , a slide pro je cto r, a movie p ro je cto r and a large screen fo r use by any o f its de- partm ents. A A t the in v ita tio n o f the D e pa rtm ent o f Chinese L ite ra tu re o f N ew Asia College, Professor Chou Fa- kao, Professor o f Chinese Language and L ite ra tu re o f the U n iv e rs ity , gave a lecture on “ H ow to use Unearthed M a terials and P rin te d Data fo r M u tu a l V e rific a tio n ” on 28 October. Δ A t the 100th M o n th ly M ee ting o f New Asia College, held on 27 October, D r. Cheng T ong -yun g , L e c tu re r in Econom ics o f the College, lectured on 'H o w to define P overty and R iches". Δ A one-week hook e x h ib itio n called “ T h e W o rld o f Paperbacks 1967” was held in the lib ra ry o f New Asia College on 2-9 October. T h e books on display, w h ich in cluded subjects on p o litic a l science, economics, cultu re, education, religion , social science, history, geography, lingu istics, fine arts, the natural sciences and applied science, were supplied by the U n ited States In fo rm a tio n Service. Δ M r. James G . M an o r, new v is itin g tu to r o f E nglish at New Asia College under the Y a le -in -C h ina “ Bachelor” Programme, assumed d u ty on 7th October. A vocalist and an ex-m em ber o f the Yale Glee C lub, M r. M a n o r w ill help the M u sic C lub o f the College in his spare tim e. Δ On 7 and 8 O ctober N ew Asia College S tudent U n io n welcomed new members in the evening w ith a varied programme w h ich included drama com petition, fashion show, singing com petition, tea and performances by affiliated societies. Δ M r. H o H on-chuen, first-yea r F ine A rts student o f New Asia College, carried o ff the gold medals fo r 100-metre backstroke and 200-metre in d iv id u a l medley at the F o u rth A q u a tic M ee t o f the H ong K o n g Post- Secondary Colleges A th le tic Association, held on 28 October, 1967. Δ T h e D ram a Society o f U n ite d College Students U n io n made its annual p u b lic appearance th is year by staging what could be en title d "T h e Play's the T h in g " at the C ity H a ll T hea tre on 26 and 27 October. T h e play is a satirical farce w ritte n by the well-know n modern Chinese p la yw rig h t Tsao Y ü . For th is p ro - duction, the dialogue was s lig h tly adapted to su it the general taste. T h e play was a success in many ways as an amateur e ffo rt in p u b lic performance. T h e audience, w hich almost packed the T hea tre on bo th evenings, not only enjoyed the im aginative and b rillia n t characterizations by the student actors and actresses, b u t also generously gave due cred it to the Society's y o u th fu l approach to drama and its team s p irit manifested in th is produ ction. Δ A D eba ting Society w ith over 40 members was fo rm a lly inaugurated at U n ite d College at a meeting held on 6 O ctober, at w h ich M r. Cheng W u i-ya u , a fina l-year student o f the D e pa rtm ent o f Business Management, was elected the firs t Chairm an. T he aim o f the Society is to prom ote interest and provide tra in in g in speech-making by arranging and p a rtic i­ pa ting in in te r-colleg iate debates, speech contests, etc. 6
