Fang Hao, Professor at N a tion a l T a i- wan U n iv e rs ity and C a tholic Fu Jen U n iv e rs ity , visited New Asia College on 11th O ctober and gave a short talk, “ On N o v e lty ” , to the H is to ry students o f the College and students o f the In s titu te o f Advanced Chinese Studies and Research o f the College. A t the In s titu te 's welcome p a rty fo r F r. Fang views were exchanged on the h is to ry o f Chinese-W estern Rela- tions, the h is to ry o f the Sung Dynasty and the histo ry o f Southeast Asia. Y un g on matters concerning the U n iv e rs ity . Δ M r. John T .S . Chen, Secretary o f N ew Asia College, and M iss Frances F .W . L a i, a fou rth -yea r student o f the College, flew to Rome on 8th O ctober to attend the T h ird W o rld Congress fo r the Lay Apostolate. M r. Chen, President o f the H ong K on g C o un cil fo r the L a y Apostolate, was leader o f the H ong K o n g delegation, and M iss La i, a member o f the H ong K o n g Federation o f C a tholic Students, was another o f the few chosen to represent the diocese. Δ M r. H o T u n g , Paul, a 1967 graduate o f U n ite d College, le ft fo r the U .S .A . on 18 September to pursue postgraduate studies in H is to ry at the U n iv e rs ity o f C a lifo rn ia , Berkeley. He was adm itted to its G raduate D e pa rtm ent and granted w aiver o f the non-resident tu itio n fee th rou gh the U n ive rs ity. Δ M r. COLLEGE NEWS Δ C hung C h i College celebrated its 16th Founder's Day on 27 and 28 October, 1967. T h e celebrations began w ith T h a n k sg ivin g Service, at w h ich special trib u te was paid to the late D r. Leslie K ilb o rn , fo rm e r Chairm an o f the Board o f Governors and V ice-P resident o f the College, who passed away on 23 June, 1967 in his T o ro n to home. T h e tra d itio n a l Round-Cam pus- Race, a one-act play, a La n te rn Parade, a L io n Dance and a Hom e C om ing N ig h t Ball were some o f the other h ig h lig h ts o f the 2-day programme, w h ich was w ell attended by staff, students and guests. M r. W illia m T .C . Cheung, Chairm an o f the Y ou th Section, H o ng K o n g and K ow lo on Jo in t K a ifo ng Research C ouncil, and owner o f London T hea tre , has given a set o f drum s fo r L io n and D ragon Dances because o f the excellent performance o f the L io n Dance. Δ U n ite d College celebrated the 11th anniversary o f its fou n d in g on 20 October. T h e College Students U n io n arranged an inte resting programme o f celebra- tions, in c lu d in g frie n d ly sports matches and bridge tournam ents between teachers and students. T he celebrations ended w ith a cocktail pa rty where Presi- dent T .C . Cheng presented prizes and cut the A n n i- versary Cake. Δ M r. T .C . Cheng, President o f U n ite d College, gave a talk on “ Chinese U n o fficia ls” at the C ity H a ll on 12 October. He spoke about 14 Chinese U n - o fficia l M em bers who had served on the Executive and Legislative C ouncils before 1941. T h e talk was one o f a series o f 12 lectures on H o ng K on g and Its People, arranged by the Depa rtm ent o f E xtram u ra l Studies o f the U n ive rsity. Δ T h e general education programme o f Chung C h i College, "P h ilo so p h y o f L ife " , has been m odified considerably and renamed "In te g ra tiv e Basic S tudies". T h e fo llow in g courses w ill now be given, by staff from the Faculties o f A rts and Science, over the fo u r years o f undergraduate s tu d y : Idea o f U n ive rsity, A r t o f T h in k in g , Chinese C u ltu re , W estern C u ltu re , Per- spectives in Sciences and Senior Sem inar. Δ T o meet the increasing needs o f H ong Kong, the tw o language departments o f Chung Chi College have been expanded, the D epa rtm ent o f Chinese L a n - guage and L ite ra tu re in to the D epa rtm ent o f Chinese and O rien ta l Languages and L ite ra tu re , and the D e- pa rtm ent o f E ng lish Language and L ite ra tu re into the Depa rtm ent o f English and Western Languages and L ite ra tu re . Δ A series o f biology seminars, sponsored by the B iology D epa rtm ent o f Chung C h i College, was started in October. In the past tw o months, speakers were in v ite d from the U n iv e rs ity o f Hong Kong, B aptist College and the Foundation Colleges o f this U n ive rsity. Δ T h e O pening Ceremony o f Chung C h i College S taff Centre was held at 4 p.m . on 7th October, 1967, where President C .T . Y un g fo rm a lly presented the key to M r. P .Y. L o , C hairm an o f the S taff C lub. Tea was served in the Centre after the ceremony.
