• Professor M.R. Smith, Visiting Professor of Journalism and Dr. Michael T .K . Wei, Lecturer in Journalism, New Asia College, gave a talk to United College students interested in Journalism at United College on 15th March. • The Institute of Advanced Chinese Studies and Research of New Asia College held a monthly seminar fo r assistant research fellows and research trainees. M r. Tso Sze-bong, an assistant research fellow, reported on “ Biographical Style in Chinese Traditional Historiography, as viewed in the light of Buddha's Biography". Miss Sun Yuen Kim , a research trainee, reported on ‘‘The Background of the Sino-American Monetary Agreement signed in 1936.” • Mr. K.S. Lo, Managing Director of Hong Kong Soya Bean Products Co., Ltd., spoke to Chung Chi College students on "Is Our Educational System Geared to Our Industrial Needs?" on 22nd March. • A t the 104th monthly seminar o f New Asia College on 15th March, M r. Mou Tsung San, Senior Lecturer in Philosophy at the College, spoke on “ The Development of Character and the Pursuit of Learning" . • An exhibition of works of art by students was held at United College from 26th to 28th March under the join t sponsorship of the A rt and Photo graphic Clubs of the College. On display were selected and prize-winning works of Chinese painting and calligraphy, oil painting and photo graphs. • The W inthrop College Scholarship, started last year fo r New Asia College graduates to further their studies at that college, has been awarded to Miss Lui Foon Sai, a 1967 graduate of the Department of Chinese Literature. • M r. Ho Pung , Assistant Lecturer in Chinese at Chung Chi College, has been promoted to an Associate Lecturership w ith effect from 1st March. • 40 students of United College attended an Introduction to Industry Seminar sponsored by the Industrial Comm ittee of Hong Kong Christian Council in cooperation w ith the Federation of Hong Kong industries, held on 23 rd March at the Christian Fam ily Service Centre, Kw um Tong. The seminar was designed to give the interested student an opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge of the industrial life in Hong Kong and the problems facing its industries. • Besides attending to their academic or ad ministrative duties, the staff members of New Asia College take part in various research projects. Their research papers are usually published in “ The New Asia Academic Annua l", and "The New Asia Journal" of The Institute of Advanced Chinese Studies and Research, or printed by the College as monographs. Prof. T'ang Chun-i's paper on The De v e l o p men t o f I deas o j H u m a n Na t u r e in Chinese Phi l o s oph y is due to be published in the near future. A group research paper, headed by Dr. Daniel Y. Chang , Head of the Chemistry Department, on I. Cleavage o f β - Ke t o n i c Esters by the A c t i o n o f Me t a l I odi de s; I I . The A c t i o n o f Hy d r a t e c Sod i um and Ca l c i um I od i de s on Ac e t oac et i c Es ter and I ts a -Me t h y l a t e d Der ivat ives, w ill be published in the J ou r na l o f Or gan i c Chem i s t r y of The American Chemical Society. • Miss Wong Kwok-shing, a first year Sociology student of United College, was adjudged the winner and awarded the “ T.C. Cheng Cup’’ in a quadran gular speech competition participated by representa­ tives of the students' unions of the Hong Kong University, Chung Chi, New Asia and United Colleges, held on 16th March at United College. • In the month of March, New Asia College sponsored the follow ing lectures: "Ed ito ria l W riting " delivered by M r. Kuei Chung Shu, Editor, Sing Tao Jih Pao; ‘‘The Perception of Beauty" by M r. Mou Tsung San, Senior Lecturer in Philo sophy; and ‘T he Sung-Yuen Lyrics and Songs: Their Relation to the Characteristic of the Han Official Collection of Tunes" by Mr. Wong Ching Chang, Senior Lecturer in Chinese Literature of the College. 一 5 —
