• New Asia College held its 305th Monthly Meeting on 19th A p ril, at which Dr. Nathan Mao, Lecturer in English, gave a talk on “ How Americans Look at the Chinese." • Dr. Ronald F. Turner-Smith, Lecturer in Mathematics at Chung Chi College, has been appointed Chairman of the Department of Mathe matics in succession to M r. Tse Lan On who has resigned from that office since the 2nd term. • Mrs. Hutchins, wife of Dr. Francis S. Hutchins, Representative of the Yale-in-China Association in Hong Kong, has recently been appointed Honorary Health Adviser of New Asia College. Mrs. Hutchins was fo r many years a medical practitioner in the United States. She specializes in gynaecology, pediatrics and fam ily planning. • By courtesy of the Consulate General of France, a film entitled “ Le Passage du R h in " was shown at United College on 20th A p ril. On that occasion, Monsieur Michel Midan, Cultural Attache to the Consulate General, met College students of French and gave a brief introduction to the film p rior to its showing. • The Journalism Department of New Asia College held an entrance examination on 6th A p ril. Out of the th irty-fou r candidates, ten would be admitted fo r the next academic year. ® Music activities flourished at Chung Chi College in the month of Ap ril. A choral concert was presented by the College Choral Society under the direction of Dr. David Sheng, Chairman of the Music Department of the College, on 3rd A p ril in the College Chapel. The Chung Chi Boy Choir presented “ Music fo r a Spring Evening" under the direction of Dr. Ruth-Esther H illila of the Music Department of the College, on 28th A p ril at the College Chapel. The programme included a guest performance by Professor Maurice Moonitz, D irector of the Lingnan Institute of Business Adm inistration of the Univer sity, and Mrs. C.T. Yung, wife of President C.T. Yung of the College. 。 At the invitation of the Sociology Department o f New Asia College, Rev. James S.W. Pun, Assistant Dean of Students of the College, lectured on “ A Proper Concept of Vocational Guidance" on 4th A p ril. The Department sponsored another lecture on “ Social Legislation and Youth Problem” delivered by Dr. Chung Chi-yung on 11th A p r il • The 5th Annual Sports Day of New Asia College was held on 7th A p ril at Kowloon Tsai Stadium. The H istory Department won the Overall Championship, Men's Group Championship, Ladies' Group Championship and Sportsmanship Award. Other awards were: Men's Individual Championship Lo Kong Wing Ladies' Individual Championship Lee Lai Chu Inter-Departmental Tug-of-War Championship Economics Department Runners-up Accounting & Finance Department Inter-Faculty Ladies Tug-of-War Championship Faculty of Commerce and Sociology Runners-up Faculty of Arts The Sports' Day ended with a speech by Dr. Francis Hutchins and the distribution of prizes by Mrs. Hutchins. • M r. Y.C. Jao, Assistant Registrar of United College, was elected in A p ril Hon. Secretary of World University Service, Hong Kong Committee, fo r the year 1968-69. • The annual verse, essay, and ‘tz'u' (songs in verse) competitions sponsored by the Chinese Literature Department of New Asia College were held on 2nd , 3rd and 7th A p ril respectively. Chinese scholars were invited to mark the papers and prizes would be awarded to the winners. The competitions aimed at promoting interest in Chinese culture. — 4 —
