The purpos e o f th e projec t o f "Acquisitio n o f Publications o n Chines e Journalism " i s t o enric h th e library o f th e Departmen t o f Journalis m an d t o hel p establish th e mos t complet e researc h centr e o n Chines e journalism. Unde r this project , book s and periodicals, i n both Chines e an d English , o n an d relate d t o Chines e journalism wil l b e purchased . A s increasin g emphasi s i s being place d o n bilingualis m i n Hong Kong , acquisitio n of thes e publication s i s essentia l t o giv e th e student s a better understanding o f Chinese journalism. These project s al l hel p t o buil d u p th e sam e objective: t o mak e th e Centr e a reall y self-sufficien t centre fo r th e student s o f Chines e journalism an d mas s media. Teaching Programme The curriculu m o f th e Departmen t o f Journalis m has bee n revise d t o mak e i t mor e practica l an d flexible and greater emphasis is laid on writing, editing and translation so tha t th e undergraduate s wil l b e abl e t o receiv e a sound and thorough training in the basics o f journalism. Thus credit s fo r th e followin g course s hav e bee n increased: 1) Reportin g 2) New s Translatio n 3) Advance d Reportin g 4) Editoria l Writin g and a new cours e ha s been added : Magazine Writin g and Editin g Besides regula r lectures , clas s discussion s ar e emphasized an d guest s fro m loca l paper s an d foreig n correspondents ar e ofte n invite d t o giv e informa l talk s and lecture s s o tha t th e student s ca n hav e direct insigh t into th e inne r workin g o f th e loca l mas s medi a an d contact wit h thei r outstanding personalities . Prof. She n ha s expresse d th e hop e tha t afte r th e consolidation o f th e curriculu m o f th e Journalis m Department an d th e strengthenin g o f th e researc h projects at th e Mas s Communication s Centre , a one-yea r graduate journalism programme wil l be established i n the not to o distan t future . Shen has envisione d th e establishmen t o f th e mos t complet e research centr e o n Chines e journalism.
