to become the Mullard Research Fellow at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology. He was awarded a Ph.D. in June 1971 by the University of Manchester. Dr. Lam joined this University in April 1971. Miss Louise Shew-wan Ho, Assistant Lecturer in English Language and Literature, New Asia College Miss Louise Shew-wan H o read English Literature at the University of Hong Kong and graduated with an honours degree in 1965. From 1965 to 1968 she served as tutor in the Department of English and Western Languages and Literature at Chung Chi College. She was awarded a scholarship by the Sino-British Trust in 1968 to study English and American Poetry 1900-1942 at the University of East Anglia a t Norwich and received her M.A. degree in 1969. Then she proceeded to work on the poetry of Wallace Stevens at the University of Warwick at Coventry, having received a further two-year scholarship from the Sino- British Trust. She is currently attached to the University of Warwick as research student. Miss Ho joined New Asia College upon her return to Hong Kong last January. (pictures in Chinese section) COMINGS AND GOINGS • Mr. Nelson H. Young, University Registrar, attended the Steering Committee meeting of the Second Commonwealth Conference of Registrars of Universities of the Southeast Asia and Pacific Area held in Kuala Lumpur from 1st to 4th May. • Mr. Luke S.K. Wong, Administrative Assistant at United College, represented the Hong Kong Committee of the World Universities Service at its Asia n Regional Seminar Workshop on Community Development held in the Philippines from 1st to 10th May. • Mr. King Chia-lun, a part-time lecturer in Fine Arts at New Asia College, participated in a 10-day Study Tour of Industrial Design Education in Japan, at the invitation of the Design Centre of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries. He lef t Hong Kong on 7th May. • Mr. Andrew Chan, Deputy Registrar and Dean of Students, United College, left Hong Kong on 10th May for the United States. Mr. Chan will atten d the 1972 Institute for Educational Management at Harvard University from 18th June to 28th July. Included in his itinerary will be visits to American universities, both State and private, to study their administrative structures and to explore possible areas of co-operation. •Mr. Zao Wou-ki, a celebrated artist and an External Examiner of the University, visited the Fine Arts Department of New Asia College on 18th May, and conducted a seminar on Modern Fine Arts at the Department. • Dr. Chuang Shou-hwa, Professor of Biology at Singapore University, visited New Asia College on 26th May. • Mr. William C. Briggeman, Representative of the Williams-in-Hong Kong Programme at United College, returned to the United States on 26th May. • Other visitors to the University included Prof. Chun-Tu Hsueh, Maryland University; Dr. Howard G. Schaller, Representative of The Ford Foundation, Bangkok; and staff of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Hong Kong. COLLEGE NEWS • The Board of Governors of New Asia College invited Dr. Y.P. Mei to extend his term of office as President of New Asia College for another year after his present term expires on 31st July, 1972. Dr. Mei has kindly accepted. • Mr. James C.Y. Watt, Curator of the A rt Gallery, and concurrently Lecturer in Fine Arts at New Asia College, has been appointed by His Excellency the Governor as a member of the Provisional Antiquities Advisory Board. - 8 —
