University o f Ca l i f o r n i a, Professor Ma cFadden has travelled extensively in Asia, and has served as Visiting Professor and Chairman of the Department of Geography, University of Ceylon, and Visiting Professor of the University of Delhi, India. Professor MacFadden arrived in Hong Kong in August 1972 to assume duty as Director of the University of California Study Centre 授 敎 敦 範麥 Prof. Clifford H. MacFadden Professor Sol Sanders, Visiting Professor of Journalism and Director of Mass Communications Centre 授教士達辛 Prof. Sol Sanders Professor Sanders, a 1964 Bachelor of Journalism of the University of Missouri, was born in the United States, but has spent the majority of his adult life in South & East Asia as a journalist. During his career in journalism , he held staff positions with Business Week, US News and World Report , United Press Association, and worked for daily newspapers in the United States and Thailand. He has also contributed as a free-lance to a wide variety of US and European magazines on Asian an d Japanese subjects. In 1970 , he left journalism for the post of Deputy Chief of Mission, the World Bank (IBRD), Tokyo. He joined this University in August 1972 as Visiting Professor in Journalism and Director of Mass Communications Centre. Professor Sanders is the author of A Sense of Asia, (see also pictures in Chinese section) 2 N D C O M M O N W E A L TH C O N F E R E N C E O F R E G I S T R A RS Mr. N.H. Young, University Registrar, and Mr. S.H. So, Assistant University Registrar, attended the Second Commonwealth Conference of Registrars of Universities of the Southeast Asia & Pacific Area held at the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, fro m 10th to 16th November, 1972. The Conference included eight session s and the following topics were discussed i n the various sessions: (1) Deployment of Administrative Personnel, (2) Effective Utilization of Central Services, (3) Effective Committee Secretaryship, (4) Administration of Study Leave, Research & Conference Grants, (5) Types and Purpose of Training of Administrative Staff , (6) Methods of Administrative Staff Training, and (7) Financing of Administrative Staff Training. The Chinese University presented a paper on "Types and Purpose of Training of Administrativ e S t a f f and Mr. Young was discussion leader of this session. P E R S O N A L I A I.
