Acheson, Fellow of Queen's College and Lecturer in Biochemistry i n the University of Oxford, and Prof. T. Boyde, Professor of Biochemistry, University of Hong Kong; Dr. John Early, Trustee of Indiana University, and Mrs. Early, and Dr. Lynne L. Merritt , Jr., Vice-President and Dean of Research and Advanced Studies of the same University, and Mrs. Merritt; and Prof. Charles A. Fisher, Professor and Head of the Department of Geography, School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London . • Dr. Choh-Ming Li, Vice-Chancellor, attended the Conference o f Overseas Vice-Chancellors sponsored by the l UC at Ibadan, Nigeria, Africa, from 4th to 8th January. Dr. Li also attended a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Asian Institute of Technology in Bankgok on 24th and 25th January. • Dr. C.Y. Choi, Head of the Department of Sociology, United College, and Dr. F .M. Wong, Lecturer in Sociology, Chung Chi College, attended the 4th Workshop of the Organization of Demo graphic Associates held in Manila from 21st to 25th January. Dr. Wong presented a paper on “The Family and Household Structure in Hong Kong", and Dr. Choi delivered an address on ‘‘The Distribution of Hong Kong's Population". • Mr. James C.Y. Watt, Curator of Art Gallery, has been awarded the John D. Rockefeller 3rd Fund Fellowship to undertake a research project on Chinese carved jade at Harvard University and to visit major museums and universities which have a department o f Far Eastern Arts. He is on leave from 1st February to 31st August. • Dr. Ranee Lee, Lecturer in Sociology, Chung Chi College, and Director of the Social Research Centre, attended the Conference on the Comparative Study of Traditional and Modern Medicine in Chinese Societies, held at the University of Washington, and visited a number of research institutions in San Francisco, Honolulu and Seoul from 3rd to 16th February. • Dr. Chan Kwong-yu, Lecturer in Biology, New Asia College, was on leave from 18th to 26th February to attend a meeting on a regional network for the development of basic science in Tokyo, sponsored by UNESCO . • Mr. T.I. Jao, Reader of Chinese Literature, New Asia College, was in Kuala Lumpur from 25th February to 3rd March serving as External Examiner at the University of Malaya. COLLEGE NEWS • Mr. T.C. Cheng, President of United College, has been appointed a member of the Working Party on Student Residence at the Universities set up by the Government to study the needs for residential as well as non-residential facilities for students of the two universities. • Mr. Chang Chien-min, Head of the Department of Business Administration, United College, was invited by The Hong Kong Management Association to conduct a 3-session course on ‘‘Salary and Wage Administration" in February. • Dr. S.C. Yang, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce & Social Science and Senior Lecturer in Business Administration at United College, has been appointed to represent the University on the Training and Examinations Committee of The Hong Kong Society of Accountants. — 6 —
