GIFTS AND DONAT IONS * The Trustees of Lingnan University donated US$30,000 to the University for building up a "core collection" of about three thousand books at the Lingnan Institute of Business Administration. * The Consulate General of the Arab Republic of Egypt has presented a gift of books consisting of 35 titles published in Egypt to the University. Academic Achievement Mr. Li Tu, Lecturer in Philosophy, New Asia College, has been awarded a Ph. D. degree by Southern Illinois University. I I I. Community Service Dr. Hung Hing-sum, Lecturer in Computer Science, United College, served as External Examiner for the Extramural Certificate Course in "Numerical Methods with Computer Processes" for 1973-74. Mrs. Eva Li Ko, Lecturer and Head of the Department of Social Work, United College, has been nominated by the University to serve as Social Studies Adviser to the Hong Kong Nursing Board. Mr. Li Hui-ying, Head of the Department of Chinese Language & Literature, United College, served as External Examiner for the Master's programme of Chu Hai College, STAFF PROFILES M r . Frank Ho Sung-yip Assistant Architect, Buildings Office Mr . Frank Ho Sung-yip graduated from the Architectural Engineering Department of Cheng Kung University, Taiwan with a B.Sc. degree in 1960. Mr. Ho was with the Planning Engineer's Office of the University of Hong Kong from 1962 to 1964 and had worked as an assistant architect at the W. Marmorek E.P. Womersley FRI BA Architects in England and Hong Kong since. Mr . Ho has varied experience in landscape architecture, design of housing scheme and commerical buildings as well as campus design. In May 1973 Mr. Ho was appointed Assistant Architect at the Buildings Office of this University. Mr . Chau Sui-cheong, Simon Tutor in Translation, New Asia College Mr. Chau Sui-cheong, a B.A. graduate of the University of Hong Kong (1970), has worked as editor, writer and teacher after graduation. He was head of the Chinese Department at Rosaryhill School, Hong Kong before joining this University as Tutor in Translation at New Asia College. Mr . Chau is the translato r of The Workers Right by J. Rear, and Marital Breakdown by J. Dominian. A t present he is working on his M.Phil, dissertation on the Chinese translation of Shakespeare. Mr . Lung-wai Tang, Stephen Tutor in Sociology, New Asia College Mr. Lung-wai Tang, a B.S.Sc. graduate of this University (1973), has conducted various research projects on the Hong Kong society, such as “The Structure of Power in a Colonial Society - A Sociological Analysis of the Unofficial Members of the Legislative Council in Hong Kong, 1948- 1971”. Mr . Tang now serves as Tutor in Sociology at New Asia College. (Pictures in Chinese Section) CULTURAL EVENTS 1. Exhibitions * An exhibition of 24 drawings on "Hong Kong in the Fifties" by Mr. Lee Wai-ling was held at the Department of Extramural Studies from 3rd July to 9th August. * The Fine Arts Department of New Asia College and the Art Gallery of the Institute of Chinese Studies jointly mounted an exhibition of the works of this year's graduates from 9th to 27th July, 1974. The works on display are of diverse styles and techniques, including oil paintings, water-and-ink paintings and etchings. * A n exhibition of watercolours and prints by Mr. Lee Quen-pai was held at the Department of Extramural Studies in August and September. - 5 -
