II.Lectures * Dr. Stanley J. Heywood, President of Eastern Montana College and membe r of the Carnegie Commission, visited the University in July with Mrs. Heywood on their way to the World Assembly of International Council on Education for Teachin g in Singapore. Dr. Heywood gave two lectures on “ L i v i ng and Learning in a Learning Society: Recent Recommendations on the Education of Teachers" and "Current Problems and Trends in American Higher Education: Findings of the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education" respectively. Trapp of the American Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers visited the Department of Electronics, United College on 3rd July. * Mr. Norman Ng Yen-tak, Assistant Lecturer in Geography, United College, attended the 5th Summer Seminar in Population held at the East- West Center, Hawaii from 17th June to 13th July, and visited the Korean Institute of Family Planning in Seoul, Korea from 14th to 21st July. * Mrs. Eva Li Ko, Lecturer and Head of the Department of Social Work, United College, attended the XV I I th International Conference on Social Welfare held in Nairobi, Kenya from 14th to 20th July. * Prof. Charles Kao of the Department of Electronics, United College, attended the 10th International Congress on Glass held in Japan from 8th to 12th July. * Dr. N.N. Chan, Senior Lecturer in Mathematics, United College, attended the Council Meeting and Biannual General Meeting of the Southeast Asian Mathematical Society held in Penang, Malaysia from 8th to 13th July, as a Council Member of the Society. * Sister Cecilia T. Tse of the University Health Service attended the Third Annual Seminar on Health Services for the Community College held in California from 8th to 13th July. * Mr. Gerald W. Berkley, Assistant Lecturer in English, and Mrs. Carolyn R. Ortmeyer, Language Instructor, New Asia College, attended the Regional English Language Centre's Seminar held in Singapore from 22nd to 28th July. * Dr. Hsueh Tien-tung, Head of the Department of Economics, United College, visited the Economics Research Centre of the University of Singapore and the Nanyang University from 13th to 22nd August, to collect statistical data and reference materials for his research on "Development Alternatives for the Economy of Singapore". * Prof. Chen Cheng Siang, Professor of Geography and Director of Geographical Research Centre, attended the sixth meeting of the Commission on Agricultural Typology of the International Geographical Union for two weeks at Verona. * Dr. Wong Yuk, Lecturer in Philosophy, New Asia College, attended the 2nd World Conference on Religion and Peace held at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium from 23rd August to 4th September. —6—
