Seminars • Concerts • Exhibitions * The Department of Chemistry presented a seminar 'Concerning Organopalladium Chemistry', conducted by Professor Richard F. Heck, University of Delaware, USA, on 3rd March. * In collaboration with the Goethe Institut, Hong Kong, the Office of International Studies Programmes and the Centre for Contemporary Asian Studiesjointly presented a lecture on 'Implications of the Increase in Our life-Expectancy during the Last 300 Years' by Professor Arthur E. Imhof, Department of History, Free University of Berlin, on 3rd March. * The Department of Accounting and Finance held a seminar on 'The Financial System and the Pattern of Financial Activities in China', conducted by Professor Liu Maoshan, Professor of Finance, Nankai University, on 4th March. * The Department of Psychiatry presented a lecture on ‘Infertility As a Marital Crisis' by Dr. Michael Humphrey, Reader of the Department of Psychology, St. George's Hospital Medical School, London, on 7th March. * The Institute of Chinese Studies organized the following seminars: — 'The Development and Dating of Hsing Yao in the Tang', conducted by Professor Li Zhiyan, Associate Research Fellow, Archae ology Division, Museum of Chinese History, Beijing, on 13th March. — 'The National History of Bo Yüe' , conducted by Professor Chen Guoqiang, Chairman of the Department of Anthropology, Xiamen University, on 27th March. — ‘Problems the Primitive Society of the Border Tribes of Yunnan Confront in the Face of Modernization', conducted by Professor Huang Shupin, Deputy Director, Institute of Nationalities, Central College of National ities, Beijing, on 7th April. * Professor Liu Ts'un-yan, Professor Emeritus of Chinese, Australian National University, andthe 1985- 86 Siu Lien Ling Wong Visiting Fellow of Chung Chi College, conducted three lectures: (1) 'The Meeting and Integration of Chinese and Western Cultures —The Experience of the Chinese in Australia' (14th March); (2) 'Chinese Taoism in the Last OneThousand and Eight Hundred Years' (21st March); and (3) 'Research in Chinese Taoism' (20th March) * The Centre for Hong Kong Studies held asem inar on 'Criminological Research in the Correctional Services Department', conducted by Mr. Chan Wa- shek, Commissioner, Correctional Services Depart ment, on 14th March. * Chung Chi College held its Annual Educational Conference with the theme o f The New Era and the New Generation' on 15th March. The speakers were: Professor Liu Ts'un-yan; the Hon. Mrs. Tam Wong Yick-ming, Member of the Legislative Council and Director of the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups; Mr. Lee Sau-wai, Principal of Lee Kau Yan Memorial School, President of the Chinese Middle Schools Association and Trustee of the Chung Chi College; Mr. Leung Chun-ying, Member of the Execu tive Committee of the Basic Law Consultative Com mittee and Partner of Jones Lang Wootton; and Miss Cheung Mei-chun, Deacon-on-probation of Church of the Saviour. * The Faculties of Science and Social Science jointly presented a public lecture on 'Research and Future Society' by Professor Eugen Seibold, President of the German Research Council, and Professor and Director of Geological Institute, University of Kiel, West Germany, on 17th March.
