Walking for Worthy Causes at the '97 Spring Walkathon ver 2,000 alumni, staff and students of the University walked for charity at the '97 CUHK Spring Walkathon on 23rd February 1997. Organized by the CUHK Convocation and The Community Chest of Hong Kong, the walkathon raised over HK$1,000,000 for the Burns Unit of the Prince of Wales Hospital, The Community Chest of Hong Kong, and the construction of an Alumni Trail on campus. The walk began after the ribbon-cutting ceremony performed by patrons of the walkathon — Prof. Arthur K. C. Li, vice-chancellor, Dr. Alice Lam, University treasurer, Prof. Joseph C. K. Lee, dean of medicine, and Mr. Lawrence Yu, Executive Committee chairman of The Community Chest — jointly with Mr. Lee Kam-chung, chairman of the Convocation, and Dr. Charles Wang, chairman of the Walkathon Organizing Committee.
