IASP 20th Anniversary Reunion T he I n t e r n a t i o n al As i an Studies Programme (lASP) celebrated its 20th anniversary from 28th June to 2nd July 1997 — the public holidays flanking the reversion of the sovereignty of Hong Kong t o China. A b o u t 80 a l umni o f the programme from 11 regions in America, Eu r o p e, an d Asia r e t u r n ed t o t he University for the five-day reunion. Celebrations The alumni were joined b y some 30 scholars and representatives from lASP's partner institutions in attending the main celebrations, which included the openin g ceremony o n 28th June, the closing banquet on 2nd July, and four seminar session on Hong Kong and its future. At the opening ceremony, Prof. Wang Gungwu, renowned historian and director of the East Asian Institute at the National University of Singapore, reviewed the various political changes that took place in Hong Kong under British rule and how they were dealt with.
