•Encouragin g InnovativeSchoo l Design H o n g Ko n g ' s e d u c a t i o n system has been e v o l v i n g w i t h the times. N ew changes i n the system require new facilities and infrastructural support i n schools. Internet connectivity, for instance, has to go hand i n hand w i t h matching facilities and school design. P r o f . B e r n a r d L i m of the D e p a r t me n t of Architecture embarked on the project 'Innovativ e School Design Parameters in Hon g Kong for the 21st Cen t u r y ' last year to promote the ide a of quality school b u i l d i n g s tha t meet the needs of educational reforms a n d p u b l i c expectations in Ho ng Kong. T h e p r o j e c t h a d t he participation of school administrators, teachers, s t u d e n t s , architects, t own planners, social wo r k e r s , p s y c h o l o g i s t s , a n d finance professionals. To tap pub l i c op i n i on, it made use of surveys, f o r ums, design workshops, seminars, school bu i l d i n g design competitions, a dream-campus exhibition, and integrated design experiments. The Beyond Classroom Design Competition requires students to design spaces outside their classroom into sites for creative learning. Seen here are young designers from the Po Leung Kuk Vicwood K.T.
