Vice-Chancellor Honoured by Waseda University Prof. Lawrence J. Lau, Vice-Chancellor of the Chinese University and internationally acclaimed economist, was conferred the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa , by Waseda University, in recognition of his achievements in research on economic development, economic growth, and the Chinese and East Asian economies, and his contributions to promoting exchange between CUHK and Waseda, Japan's leading academic institution. In early 2007, Prof. Lau had been awarded an honorary doctorate by Soka University as a tribute to his contributions to economic studies and education. Three Make Honours List 2007 Three CUHK members made the 2007 Honours List of the HKSAR. • Prof. Chan Chi-fai Andrew, professor in the Department of Marketing, was awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star for his contribution to the promotion of consumer protection and the development of quality tourism services initiatives. • Prof. Joseph Man Chan, professor in the School of Journalism and Communication, was awarded the Medal of Honour for his contribution to the Independent Commission Against Corruption's Citizens Advisory Committee on Community Relations. • Prof. Lam Yip-keung Peter, director of the Art Museum, was awarded the Medal of Honour for his contribution to the promotion of the study of Hong Kong's archaeology. Inaugural Nursing Awards Prof. Chair Sek-ying from the Nethersole School of Nursing was honoured with two 2007 Cardiac Nursing Awards — first prize in 'Excellence or Innovation in Acute or Critical Care' and third prize in 'Excellence or Innovation in Cardiac Intervention or Surgery', for her contributions to evidence-based research with the purpose of improving patient care and well-being. These inaugural awards were co-organized by the British Journal of Cardiac Nursing and the British Association for Nursing in Cardiovascular Care.
