Foundation Stone Laid for Fok Ying Tung Building The foundation stone laying ceremony for the Fok Ying Tung Remote Sensing Science Building was held on 22 August 2007. Supported by a generous donation of HK$40 million from the Fok Ying Tung Foundation, the building will house a satellite antenna control room, a remote sensing data receiving, processing and application services hub and research laboratories. It will be one of the most important satellite remote sensing research facilities in Southern China and the region. Researchers based there will conduct studies on the prediction of natural disasters, exploration of natural resources, architecture and habitation study, and urban planning. The building will substantially boost the University's research capabilities in the geoinformation and earth sciences, one of the University's five key areas for strategic research investment.
