HK$88.72M from Jockey Club for Sports and Health Centre The Chinese University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Polytechnic University received a donation of HK$88.72 million from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust to set up the Hong Kong Jockey Club Sports Medicine and Health Sciences Centre. The virtual centre, officially established on 1 August 2007, will utilize 14 existing sport- and health sciences-related laboratories and facilities at both universities. It will provide quality clinical services to professional and amateur athletes, enhance training for professional medical staff, and promote exercise in the community. It will also render clinical support and performance enhancement services to some 3,300 elite athletes from Hong Kong and mainland China in the coming three years, including those at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and equestrian events, the 2009 East Asian Games in Hong Kong, and the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou. Professorship in Indian Religions and Culture Supported by ISKCON CUHK received a generous donation of HK$4 million from the International Society for Krishna Consciousness of Hong Kong (ISKCON- Hong Kong) to establish a professorship in Indian religions and culture, the first of its kind in Hong Kong, at t h e D e p a r t m e n t o f C u l t u r a l a n d Religious Studies. Prof. Kenneth Valpey of the University of Oxford in England has accepted the offer of the professorship. A n i n a u g u r a t i o n ceremony was held on 11 October 2007.
