HK$30M from Mr. Li Weibo CUHK has received a generous donation of HK$30 million from Mr. Li Weibo, chairman of Glory Harvest Group Holdings Ltd., to establish new infrastructure and facilities for long-term development. A visionary industrialist, Mr. Li Weibo is highly supportive of community welfare, in particular, education. His belief that the future of Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta pivots on the expertise and research nurtured by higher education led him to seek collaboration with CUHK as a means of contributing to tertiary education and research. HK$65M from Jockey Club for Educating Hearing- impaired The Centre for Sign Linguistics and Deaf Studies of the Department of Linguistics and Modern Languages received a major donation of HK$65 million from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust to establish the Jockey Club Sign Bilingualism and Co-enrolment in Deaf Education Programme. Launched on 5 June 2007, the seven-year programme aims at establishing an alternative model of deaf education, with a view to providing deaf students with equal opportunities in mainstream pre- school and primary education. It involves collaborative teaching of deaf and mainstream school teachers and co-enrolment of deaf and hearing students in classes where both sign and spoken language in English and Chinese are used.
