Honours and Recognition   39 CUHK Biologist Named Croucher Senior Research Fellow P rof. Jiang Liwen, professor in the Department of Biology and director of the Centre for Cell and Development Biology, was awarded a Senior Research Fellowship by The Croucher Foundation on 24 March 2009, in recognition of his outstanding scientific achievements in the international scientific community. Prof. Jiang’s research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of protein trafficking and organelle biogenesis in the plant secretory and endocytic pathways, as well as their potential applications in plant biotechnology. Lau, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK CUHK Scholars Win Cheung Kong Achievement Award for Third Consecutive Year P rof. Chan Hsiao-chang, Li Ka Shing Professor of Physiology and director of the Epithelial Cell Biology Research Centre at CUHK, was conferred the Life Sciences Award of the 2007 Cheung Kong Award for her breakthrough discoveries in epithelial cell biology. The presentation ceremony took place at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on 5 December 2008. CUHK is the only university in Hong Kong with Cheung Kong Achievement Award recipients on its faculty. Prof. Sung Jao-yiu Joseph, Head of Shaw College and Professor of Medicine and Therapeutics, and Prof. Lo Yuk- ming Dennis, Professor of Chemical Pathology and Li Ka Shing Professor of Medicine, were bestowed the same award for the years 2005 and 2006.
