Intellectual Cross-currents   57 International Conference on Childhood Obesity T he Department of Sports Science and Physical Education hosted Hong Kong’s first ‘International Conference on Childhood Obesity: Evidence and Practice from Exercise Science’ from 13 to 16 November 2008. Topics such as childhood obesity epidemiology, prevention and management issues, and the role of exercise we r e c o v e r e d . Mo r e than 100 delegates from Australia, mainland China, Eu r o p e , Ho ng Ko ng , Japan, North America, and Taiwan took part in the conference. Humanities and Social Sciences Forum T h e C h i n e s e U n i v e r s i t y , N a n j i n g University and Taiwan Central University co-organized the ‘Third Cross-Strait Forum on Humanities and Social Sciences’ on 22 and 23 November 2008 on campus. The theme was ‘City, Society, Culture—Innovation and Continuation of Tradition’. Prof. Lee Ou-fan Leo (right), Professor of Humanities at CUHK and Academician of Academia Sinica, Taipei, and over 50 scholars in the humanities and social sciences from the mainland, Hong Kong, and Taiwan took part.
