Chinese University Bulletin No. 2, 2009 ‘W hen something needs to be done and nobody does it, I feel obliged to do it. If I don’t, I would regret while taking a walk on the beach in my retirement. But if I tried and failed, I wouldn’t lose any sleep over it.’ With that, Professor Hsiung set out on a lonely journey into the terra incognita of Chinese history. Thanks to over 20 years of her work, the history of childhood in China has come into being. This previously missing piece in the jigsaw of Chinese history is now a fledgling yet promising field. Professor Hsiung says, ‘Children have made up a third to a half of the population in Chinese history. One- third of the population is definitely not insignificant.’ Penning  Histories of    the Forgotten  Hsiung Ping-chen
