40 Chinese University Bulletin No. 2, 2012 honours and recognition Prof. Dennis Lo Awarded International Honours Prof. Dennis Lo Yuk-ming, Li Ka Shing Professor of Medicine, has received the 2012 AACC-NACB Award for Outstanding Contributions to Clinical Chemistry in a Selected Area of Research from the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC) and the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistr y ( NACB ) for his ground-breaking work in non-invasive prenatal diagnosis. He is the first Chinese to receive the honour. Professor Lo also received the 2012 Ernesto Illy Trieste Science Prize instituted by the World Academy of Sciences for the Advancement of Science in Developing Countries and illycaffè. The prize is designed to reward scientists whose research has had a significant impact on sustainable development. Prof. Rossa Chiu Awarded APEC Science Prize Prof. Rossa W.K. Chiu of the Department of Chemical Pathology was awarded the 2012 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Science Prize for I nnovation, Research and Education for her research and development of non-invasive prenatal diagnostic approaches, and her efforts to promote cross-border scientific and technological cooperation in health innovations. Prof. Du Ruxu Elected Fellow of Society of Manufacturing Engineers Prof. Du Ruxu of the Faculty of Engineering was elected a Fellow of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers for his significant accomplishments in the field of manufacturing engineering. Six industry leaders from around the world received the award in 2012. Prof. Albert Lee Elected to Institute of Medicine Prof. Albert Lee, professor and founding director of Centre for Health Education and Health Promotion of the Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care of CUHK, has been elected to the Institute of Medicine of the US National Academies.
