Calendar 2000–01

General Information The University offers four part-time degree programmes: Music, Physical Education and Sports Science, Post-registration Nursing, and Primary Education. Regulations governing these programmes as well as admission to part-time undergraduate studies are given in Part 7 of this Calendar . Degrees are awarded on the same basis as the full-time programmes described on p.161. Curriculum Structure The normal length of study for a part-time programme is five to six years, with three terms in each year (with the exception of the Post-registration Nursing Programme). Apart from completing requirements of the major subject, students are also required to take general education courses and/or elective courses in other disciplines. The University adopted with effect from 1991–92 a full-fledged credit unit system in the undergraduate curriculum (with the exception of the Post-registration Nursing Programme). Secondary 6 and Secondary 7 students are required to complete before graduation at least 123 and 99 units of courses respectively. Students who satisfy special entrance requirements of a specific programme and are granted unit exemption at the time of admission shall complete at least 80 or 60 units of courses before graduation, depending on the specific category under which they are admitted. Exemption from major requirements in specific programmes shall also be given to students as prescribed in the study scheme concerned. The Post-registration Nursing Programme is designed for registered nurses, and the normal length of study shall be three to four years. Starting from 1999–2000, all newly-admitted students are required to achieve a certain level of competence in IT.
