Pharmacoeconomics research aims to measure and compare the costs, risks, and benefits of h ealth care programmes, with a view to identifying the most cost- effective interventions. Thisincreased interest in pharmacoeconomicsand theabsence of organized systematic activities in Hong Ko ng led to the establishment of a Centre for Pharmacoeconomics Research (CPER) in 1999, with the director of the School of Pharmacy asthe convener. Membersof this multi-disciplinary centre are drawn from sp ecialists in health econ omics, ep idemiolo gy, medicine, ph armacy, bio statistics, the social sciences, and hospital administration. I n add ition to undertaking high-quality research in pharmacoeconomics, the centre has as its primary objective the provision of continuous education for professionals or those interested in the discipline. Activities of the centre include regular public lectures by in ternationally renown ed speaker s, research collabor ation with other org anizations, and internationalconferences. Centre of Research and Promotion of Women’s Health Tel.:2252 8839 Fax.:2645 3276 E-mail: wendyshin@cuhk.edu.hk Website :http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/crpwh The Centre of Research and Promotion o f Women’s Health (CRPWH) was estab lished in January 2001 with a missio n to impr ove the h ealth of women across the life-span by prioritizing, developing, stimulating, coordinating and conducting research, education, training and promotional activities. New initiatives include the setting up of a Joint Resource Centre to provide comprehensive data and information for an integrated approach to women’shealth through sharing information and exchanging ideas on a wide range of topics relevant to the health and well-being ofwomen. The centre will serve academics, administrators, health and social welfare wor kers, as well as students and the general public. This was made p ossible with a seeding g rant from Dr . Annie Wong through the Hong Kong Federation of Women. Other activities include health assessment programmes forwomen in midlife, periodic public health talks, and the publication of the booklet, Confidence for the Crossroad . Research projects cover various areas in differ ent stages and aspects of women’s health, from adolescence to mature years, and from nutritional epidemiology to screening.
