More specifically, CINTEC’s missions are to: • emerge as an advanced applied research and development centre; • actively contribute to and collaborate with industry in the development of high-value-added technological activitiesand the identification of commercially relevant research topics; • provide high quality training for professionals in innovative research initiatives and engineering entrepreneurship; • fo ster gr eater collabo ration with the mainland for the ad van cement of technology; • provid e a synerg istic environment leading to innovations and techn ology advancement. CINTEC consists of two branches. The technology development branch coordinates inter-departmental projects. It pools resources and expertise from various departments to engage in large-scale multi-disciplinary applied R & D projects, thereby advancing Hong Kong’stechnology development. The Industrial Liaison Office is dedicated to en hancing th e liaison between the faculty and industry so thatresearch and industrial needs are well matched. Centre for Nutritional Studies Tel.:2252 8852 Fax.:2637 3852/2606 3500 The Centre for Nutritional Studies was established under the Faculty of Medicine in March 1997 to conduct research relevant to Hong Kong, to promoteawareness of the importance of nutrition among students, health careworkers, and thepublic, and to interact with similar organizations in other countries, especially those in the Asian Pacific region. Current activities include the assessment of dietary hab its and nutritional status of all age groups in the community, recommending optimum dietary practices, inv estigating the relationship between specific nutrien ts and health, and designing nutritional support menus for patients in various clinical states. It also plans to launch educational programmes to promote nutritional awareness, and to conduct research projects targeted at over-nutrition in children as well as adults, obesity, the role of diet in card iovascular health, the role of calcium in osteoporosis, and institutional undernutrition.
