Postgraduate Studies • Inter-faculty 381 Inter-faculty Programme Division of Gender Studies This is an interdisciplinary programme administratively housed in the Department of Anthropology. PhD Programme in Gender Studies The objective of this programme is to encourage further integration of teaching and research in gender studies in East and Southeast Asian societies at a more advanced level. It brings together different disciplinary and methodological approaches for the advancement of gender studies, and encourages the integration of theoretical knowledge and research skills in the course of study as well as in the students’ theses. Fields of Specialization Students will work under a supervisor from a participating department. They should indicate the specific discipline (Anthropology, History, Nursing, Psychology, Religion, Sociology, etc.) in which they wish to work when applying. Courses Offered (A) Required Courses 1. Directed Studies MPhil Programme in Gender Studies The curriculum uses an interdisciplinary approach to achieve a comprehensive study of gender. Core courses examine how human beings are socially and culturally constructed as ‘women’ and ‘men’, highlighting how gender as an important principle of social organization interacts with the political, economic and ideological systems. Fields of Specialization Students will work under a supervisor from a participating department. They should indicate the specific discipline (Anthropology, History, Nursing, Psychology, Religion, Sociology, etc.) in which they wish to work when applying. Students are required to complete course requirements of both the Gender Studies Programme and the participating department.
