Faculty and Departmental Research/Consultancy Units 353 Assessment and Training Centre (ATC) Tel.: 2994 3551 Fax.: 2994 3745 E-mail: atc-cuhk@cuhk.edu.hk Website: http://www.atc.cuhk.edu.hk ATC was established by the Department of Psychology in 2001, in collaboration with the Faculty of Business Administration. It applies culturally relevant knowledge in psychological assessment and industrial-organizational psychology to personal growth and modern management. Equipped with audio-visual recording and multimedia presentation facilities, ATC is an important research and training resource. It provides users with a comprehensive range of valid assessment tools and training packages for self-enhancement and management practices. It is also a vital research facility for the behavioural validation of psychological assessment tools and it serves as a teaching laboratory for students in the industrial-organizational psychology programme, allowing them to gain hands-on experience in conducting workshops, performance appraisal, and personnel selection exercises. The Assisted Reproductive Technology Unit Tel.: 2632 3535/3199 Fax.: 2636 0008 Apart from providing an extensive clinical service, this sub-speciality unit of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology is involved in a wide range of research projects on various aspects of assisted human reproduction in humans. These include projects directly related to in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer, cryopreservation of gametes and embryos, and micromanipulation of gametes. Research is also being conducted on polycystic ovarian syndrome, unexplained infertility, psychometric factors in reproductive medicine, genetic aspects of male infertility and chemical signaling. Facilities are provided in the Assisted Reproductive Technology Unit and Lee Hysan Clinical Research Laboratories at the Prince of Wales Hospital. The Biotechnology Laboratory Tel.: 2609 6807 Fax.: 2603 5123 E-mail: biochemistry@cuhk.edu.hk The Biotechnology Laboratory was established in 1986 with a special grant from The Croucher Foundation and Dr. Ho Tim. Located on the fourth floor of the Basic Medical Sciences Building, the laboratory is operated jointly by the Departments of Biochemistry and Biology. It is well equipped for performing experiments in molecular biology and recombinant DNA work. A major goal of the laboratory is to identify areas of research in biotechnology which are of local relevance. Ongoing major research projects include vaccine development for malaria, anti-cancer drug studies, gene regulation and structural and functional study of ribosomal inactivating proteins. The laboratory also serves as an education centre. Its facilities are available to students of the biological/biomedical sciences programmes. To promote a wider interest in biotechnology, the laboratory organizes workshops on special topics for local and overseas researchers.
