Faculty and Departmental Research/Consultancy Units 355 With a generous donation from the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong, the Centre for Catholic Studies was established at the Department of Cultural and Religious Studies to further develop Catholic studies at the University in November 2005. The main objectives of the centre are: promoting academic research related to Catholic Studies; training Catholic studies scholars; enhancing academic exchanges among scholars of Catholic studies worldwide; and disseminating knowledge of Catholic culture. Activities of the centre includes conducting research projects which focus on religion and society, from historical and contemporary perspective; organizing seminars on Catholic social teachings, history of the Catholic Church, Catholic culture and other topics; offering courses through the Department of Cultural and Religious Studies; providing scholarships for graduate students; publishing academic works on Catholic studies; organizing academic conference and so on. The centre has also launched a sponsorship scheme for local and non-local scholars to conduct research and involve in other academic activities. Short-term visit of non-local scholars are welcomed. Moreover, overseas famous scholars are invited to conduct research, give lectures and classes. Members of the centre include teaching staff and senior postgraduate students of the department. The centre serves the research interest of its members by organizing in-house seminars, guest lectures, and conferences on selected topics. It also conducts exchanges with local and overseas scholars who specialize in the political, social, economics, intellectual, and cultural aspects of later imperial China. Centre for Clinical Trials (CCT) Tel.: 2632 1032 Fax.: 2632 5816 E-mail: bzee@cuhk.edu.hk The CCT was established in 2003 under the School of Public Health to consolidate expertise in clinical trials research. It also provides an infrastructure to support local, regional and international clinical trial activities in Asia. The mission of this group is to provide methodological advice, regulatory submission assistance, as well as study and data management support to investigators who are interested in developing clinical trials within their area of research. Clinical trials have been identified as an indispensable tool for answering clearly defined and clinically important questions that need to be addressed with the strictest scientific methods and conducts. The CCT realizes the importance of these mandates and provides the following services to individuals from the University and local industry who would like to develop their clinical trials operations:
