Faculty and Departmental Research/Consultancy Units 373 Under the auspices of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Hospital Authority, the University of Oxford and Peking University, the Branch successfully organized the 3rd Asia Pacific Conference on Evidence-Based Medicine in 2004 in which over 300 delegates from 28 countries participated. The Hong Kong Centre for Evidence-Based Nursing Tel.: 2609 6231 Fax.: 2603 5520 E-mail: davidthompson@cuhk.edu.hk The Hong Kong Centre for Evidence-Based Nursing, established in 1997, aims to promote research-based nursing practice in Hong Kong. The centre, the first of its kind in Southeast Asia, is based in the Nethersole School of Nursing at the University. The purposes of the centre are to improve the quality and effectiveness of nursing care, promote research in clinical nursing practice, provide education in clinical nursing research, and develop education programmes to advance research-based nursing practice. To carry out its aims, the centre • undertakes systematic reviews on areas of need in nursing practice; • develops and introduces best practice guidelines; • provides consultancy on improving clinical effectiveness; • evaluates the effectiveness of best practice guidelines; • participates in multi-site clinical trials evaluating nursing practice; • organizes seminars, workshops, and conferences on evidence-based nursing. The Hong Kong Centre for Evidence-Based Nursing is one of the 26 associated centres of the Joanna Briggs Institute in Australia. Each collaborating centre plays a key role in promoting evidence-based practice in their own areas. Hong Kong Enuresis Research and Information Centre (HKERIC) Tel.: 2632 3554 Fax.: 2632 4658 E-mail: hkeric@cuhk.edu.hk Website: http://www.surgery.cuhk.edu.hk/paed/hkeric The HKERIC was established in December 2001 by volunteers from various backgrounds including medical doctors, nurse specialists, psychiatrists, psychologists as well as ex-patients and their family members. Its objectives are to increase public awareness and understanding of bedwetting, inform parents and young adults of where they can go for professional help, encourage mutual support among patients and their family members, reduce stress associated with bedwetting, promote research on the causes and treatment of enuresis, and to facilitate exchange of ideas and updating of knowledge with overseas experts and international institutes in enuresis research. The centre provides a telephone hotline service for the public. It also has a website with information pamphlets including a guide to enuresis for parents and teenagers. The pamphlets can be downloaded from the website or obtained via mail on request. In addition, interested parties are welcome to join the ‘Friends of HKERIC’ and receive their regular newsletter.
