32 Part 1 • General Information Part 1 The College motto is ‘Scholarship and Perseverance’. Through its diverse programmes of general education, college student life, as well as cultural and overseas exchanges, the College aims to broaden students’ horizons (scholarship), and encourage them to forge ahead (perseverance) in making contributions to society and leading a productive and rewarding life. In support to the College mission of ‘Entrepreneurial Spirit with Social Responsibility’, the College creates an intimate and dynamic learning atmosphere, students will develop the drive for social entrepreneurship—a passion for creativity and innovation, and acumen in pursuing new projects and ideas, not just for personal gain but for the common good. A wide variety of College activities and programmes being designed according to its mission are launched or under active planning, including creativity programmes, general education programme, service-learning programmes, cultural and exchange programmes, summer research programmes, language enhancement programmes, college forums, mentorship programme, internship programme and aesthetic programmes, etc. The College particularly encourages students to develop their own initiatives and will provide support both in terms of project grants and faculty resources. The College offers scholarships to students for academic excellence, as well as outstanding performance in other areas such as creative sphere, social endeavours, arts, and sports. Financial aid is also available to students in need. The College is located by Residence Lane 1. Its student hostels accommodate 600 students in 300 twin rooms. Commuter students, though not living on campus, can still enjoy their campus life at their second home—the full sea view non-resident halls where they interact with fellow students and participate in various hall activities. One of the signatures of the College campus is the Creativity Laboratory— an ideal playground of innovative ideas across a wide range of intellectual domains for students. Other top-notch learning facilities and amenities include the learning commons, College gallery, College theatre, study room, seminar rooms, full sea view gymnasium, music rooms, and multi-purpose sports room. All these amenities surround the inspiring central courtyard and podium, where students hold intelligent conversations or read reflectively. The Master of Wu Yee Sun College, Prof. Rance P.L. Lee, is a pioneering and leading scholar in medical and health sociology in Hong Kong and China. His services to the University over the last four decades include director of the Social Research Centre, professor and chairman of Sociology Department, Dean of the Faculty of Social Science and Head of Chung Chi College.
