The Constituent Colleges 33 Part 1 Lee Woo Sing College Lee Woo Sing College was established in 2007 with very generous support from the Li Foundation (Bing Hua Tang). With the College motto ‘Wisdom, Humanity, Integrity, Harmony’, the College aims at developing leaders with excellent communication and leadership skills for Hong Kong, the mainland and the world. The College also emphasizes the spirit of ‘Harmony’, being kind to people and handling things with moderation. Students are encouraged to be thankful and contribute to their alma mater and the community. The College already admitted its first cohort of 247 students in the Fall of 2011. The campus will accommodate up to 1,200 students (600 residential students and 600 non-residential students) and is expected to operate by the 2012–13 academic year. The College’s beautiful campus is situated at mid-level of the University, commanding the tranquil view of Tolo Harbour and blending with the slope and nature. It consists of two main buildings which are linked up by a complex of student communal facilities. To add colour to college life, the College has added ample communal facilities on the campus, including student-staff catering centre, courtyard, multi-purpose hall, mini- theatre, French window with full hill-view fitness room, dance room, music rooms, computer room, and games rooms. The emblem of the College is made up of three ancient Chinese characters —people, mountain and harmony. It indicates the College emphasizes on staff- students’ interaction with nature. It is the College’s ultimate goal to promote a green life among students and to raise their environment awareness, so as to develop a sustainable campus. Green measures include hostel energy-saving measures, installation of in-room digital metre and staff-student catering centre waste-reduction scheme, etc. The College cares a lot about students’ moral and intellectual development, as well as their career prospects. It aims to provide students with whole-person education through a wide range of general education programmes and student development activities, such as seminars, leadership training courses and visiting scholar programmes. Education and activities provided by the College will help its students to be confident and self-motivated, and to speak out and express their opinions. The College provides various scholarships to recognize students with excellent academic and outstanding personal performance. Substantial bursaries and other financial aids are also available for students-in-need. Prof. Joseph Wan-yee Lau, a world-renowned expert on hepato-pancreato- biliary surgery and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, is the founding Master of Lee Woo Sing College.
