CUHK Newsletter 中 — 大 — 通 訊 Vol.1 No. 9 August 1990 Fifteen Received Grants for Staff Development in 1989-90 The University administers a variety of fellowships and scholarships for teaching and administrative staff to broaden their experience or pursue further studies in overseas institutions. Last year, 15 staff members were awarded grants for staff development projects. Details are summarized below. ACU Administrative Travelling Fellowship Awardee: Mrs. Chow Chan Man-yuen, Grace, administrative director of student affairs Project: To study the provision of student services in the UK and the various government-sponsored financial aid schemes for tertiary students in that country Period: 23.7.90-24.8.90 ACU Senior Travelling Fellowship Awardee: Prof. Yeung Yue-man, professor of geography and former registrar Project: To visit universities in the UK and Canada to study their undergraduate curriculum design, admission systems and the modernization programme in university administration Period: 19.3.90-26.4.90 ASAIHL Fellowship Scheme Awardee: Dr. Chung Po-shuen, reader in electronic engineering Project: To conduct lecture tours at the National University of Singapore and the University of Malaya Period: 22.5.90-15.6.90 Commonwealth Medical Fellowship Awardee: Dr. Pang Chi-pui, lecturer in chemical pathology Project: To conduct research on the precise genetic defect in individual patients with haemophilia B at Sir William Dunn School of Pathology, University of Oxford, UK Period: 16.10.89-31.8.90 Commonwealth Senior Medical Fellowship Awardee: Prof. Allan Ming-yang Chang, professor of obstetrics and gynaecology Project: To visit the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Nottingham, UK and to study computer applications in obstetrics and gynaecology Period: 29.5.90-21.8.90 Harvard-Yenching Visiting Scholars Programme Awardee: Dr. Sung Yun-wing, senior lecturer in economics Project: To conduct research on ‘The open door policy and the liberalization of China's trade regime' at Harvard University Period: 1.9.89-31.8.90 1
