Epson Foundation Invites Applications for Research Funding Staff members wishing to apply for funds from the Epson Foundation for research should send their applications to the Research Administration Office before 1st December 1992. The date of reopening will be announced in due course. Service to the Community and International Organizations • Sir Quo-wei Lee, chairman of the University Council, has been appointed by HE the Governor as a member of the Governor's Business Council from 10th October 1992 to 31st December 1994. • Prof. S. W. Tam, pro-vice-chancellor of the University and dean of the Graduate School, has been appointed by HE the Governor as chairman of the Supplementary Medical Professions Council for one year from 1st October 1992. • Prof. Joseph C. K. Lee of the Department of Anatomical and Cellular Pathology has been appointed by HE the Governor as a member of the Supplementary Medical Professions Council and as chairman of the Optometrists Board, both for aterm of one year from 1st October 1992. • Prof. Charles. K. Kao, vice-chancellor of the University, has been appointed as amember of the Engineers Registration Board from 9th July 1992. • Dr. Cheng Yin Cheong, lecturer in educational administration and policy, has been invited by the Education Department to serve as a member of its Advisory Committee on School Management Initiative for another year from 1st September 1992. • Dr. Tsao Poon-yee, lecturer in music, has been appointed by the Urban Council as an honorary adviser to the Hong Kong Museum of History for one year from 1st October 1992. • Dr. Leslie N. K. Lo, dean of education, has been invited by Caritas-Hong Kong to serve as a member of its reconstituted Education Committee for two and ahalf years from 1st September 1992. • Prof. Ferdinand A. Gul of the Department of Accountancy has been invited by the Council of the Hong Kong Society of Accountants to serve as amember of its Third Long Range Plan Working Group from 15th September 1992. Prof. Gul has also been invited by the Hong Kong Society of Accountants to serve as a member of its editorial board from 15th September 1992. • Mr. Stephen Yam, lecturer in accountancy, has been invited by the Hong Kong Association of the Deaf to serve as amember of its advisory committee from 1st September 1992 to 1st September 1994. Mr. Yamhas also been appointed by the Shanghai Academy of Social Science as honorary consulting professor of graduate studies of accountancy from 20th September 1992.
