CUHK NEWSLETTER A NNOUNCEMENTS Congregation t o Adopt New Format In view o f the increasing numbe r of students graduatin g each year, and the need to devise a graduation ceremony to enable all graduates to be presented for conferment of degrees b y th e Chancellor , th e Universit y Counci l has , after due consultation, given approval for the University to introduc e a ne w forma t fo r th e congregatio n fro m 1994. The Octobe r congregatio n fo r th e confermen t o f honorary an d highe r degrees , an d th e Decembe r ceremony fo r th e confermen t o f firs t degree s wil l b e combined unde r the new format. One whole day will be devoted t o th e graduatio n event . I n th e morning , al l graduates wil l attend one big ceremony presided over by the Chancello r an d hel d a t th e Universit y Mall . Honorary an d higher degree graduates will be presented individually whil e firs t degre e graduate s wil l b e presented i n group s by degree . In th e afternoon , firs t degre e graduate s wil l hav e their tur n i n bein g presente d individuall y o n stage , before thei r family , facult y an d friends , i n separat e graduation ceremonie s organize d b y thei r respectiv e colleges and , i n th e cas e o f th e part-tim e degre e graduates, b y th e relevant programme office. The ne w arrangemen t wil l enabl e al l graduate s t o share a common graduation event. First degree graduates will continu e t o enjoy personal attentio n a t the college / PDF graduatio n ceremony . The forthcomin g congregation i s schedule d fo r 1s t December an d staff members will be invited to join both morning an d afternoo n ceremonies .
