4 No. 131 19th September 1998 CUHK Newsletter 宣 布 事 項 ANNOUNCEMENTS 新任講座教授 Professorial Appointments •系統工程與工程管理學講座教授 Professor of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management 大學宣布委任姚大衛教授為系統工程與工程管理學講座教授, 任期由一九九八年八月一日起生效。 姚教授在加拿大多倫多大學攻讀工業工程及運籌學,先後於一九 八一及八三年獲授應用科學理科碩士和哲學博士學位。 姚教授一九八三年獲聘為哥倫比亞大學助理教授,其後曾於哈 佛、耶魯和香港科技大學任教,加入中大服務前,為哥倫比亞大學工 業工程及運籌學教授及愛迪生教授。 姚教授是多個學會的會員或院士,持有多項專利權,又擔任多份 國際學術期刊的編輯工作。 Prof. David D. Yao has been appointed professor of systems engineering and engineering management from 1st August 1998. Prof. Yao obtained his MASc and PhD in industrial engineering and operations research from the University of Toronto in 1981 and 1983 respectively. He has had teaching experience at Columbia University, Harvard University, Yale University, and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Before joining the University, he was professor of industrial engineering and operations research and Thomas Elva Edison Professor at Columbia University. Prof. Yao serves as editor/associate editor of various journals including Operations Research, Discrete Event Dynamic Systems, Theory and Applications, IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, Management Science, and Operations Research Letters. He is also a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and a member of the Operations Research Society of America, the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics, Omega Rho, and Alpha Pi Mu. •會計學講座教授 Professor of Accountancy 大學宣布委任許仁茂教授為會計學講座教授,任期由一九九八年 八月十五日起生效。 許教授一九七四年獲南韓 Cheong-Ju 大學文學士學位,並先後於一 九七九及八三年獲美國亞拉巴馬大學工商管理碩士和哲學博士學位。 許教授一九八三年獲聘為紐約市大學會計學助理教授,五年後晉 升為副教授,一九九零年轉任教於德克薩斯基督大學,去年八月起出 任本校會計學院客座教授。 許教授為多份期刊的評審,並曾出任韓裔美國會計學教授聯會主席。 Prof. Gerard Haw In-mu has been appointed professor of accountancy from 15th August 1998. Prof. Haw obtained his BA from Cheong-Ju University in Korea in 1974, and his MBA and PhD from the University of Alabama in 1979 and 1983 respectively. Prior to joining the University as visiting professor in 1997, he had taught accounting at Texas Christian University, Baruch College of the City University of New York, and the University of Alabama. Recipient of several teaching and research awards, Prof. Haw was president of the Korean-American Accounting Professors Association from 1992 to 1994 and ad-hoc referee of journals including The Accounting Review, the Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, and the Quarterly Journal of Business and Economics. •教育行政與政策學講座教授 Professor of Educational Administration and Policy 大學宣布委任林怡禮教授為教育行政與政策學講座教授,任期由 一九九八年八月十八日起生效。 林教授一九六四年取得港大文學士學位,其後到多倫多大學進修 教育行政,先後於一九六九和七一年獲授教育碩士和哲學博士學位。 林教授曾於一九七二至七三年出任本校教育學院講師,七三年獲 聘為加拿大馬尼托巴省布蘭登大學助理教授,七九年晉升為副教授, 八五年為正教授。林教授由一九八八年起獲委任為馬尼托巴大學兼任 教授。 林教授為多個教育學會會員,並為香港研究資助局社會科學學科研究計劃書的評審。 Prof. Jack Lam Yee-lay has been appointed professor of educational administration and policy from 18th August 1998. Prof. Lam received his BA in history from the University of Hong Kong in 1964, and his MEd and PhD in educational administration from the University of Toronto in 1969 and 1971. Prof. Lam taught at the Faculty of Education of Brandon University in Manitoba for about 20 years, during which he was also chair of the Department of Administration and Education Services, assistant dean of the Faculty of Education, coordinator of the Brandon University Indian Leadership Development Project, and chair of the Faculty of Education Graduate Studies. He is a member of the Commonwealth Council of Educational Administration, the Comparative and International Education Society of Canada, and the American Education Research Association. He has served as external examiner for The Chinese University and has been invited by the University Grants Committee of Hong Kong to review research proposals received by the Research Grants Council. Salary Revision From the University Bursar: Junior Staff (Terms of Service 'B' and 'C') Upon the University Council's approval, new salaries effective from 1st April 1998 will be paid in the September payroll together with backpay up to August 1998. Senior Staff New salaries effective from 1st April 1998 together with backpay will be paid to senior staff as soon as approval has been received from the Hong Kong Government for the new salary scales. It is hoped that approval will be received in time to pay the new rates together with backpay in the September payroll. 工作簽證延期 Visa Extension 沒有香港居留權的同人須留意其在香港工作之簽證逗留期限,並 於限期屆滿前四星期內向政府申請延期。申請者須提供大學在職證 明。同人可聯絡人事處索取證明,查詢請電人事處(內線七一七九)。 Staff members who do not hold the right of abode in Hong Kong are reminded to check the validity of their employment visas, which should be renewed within four weeks prior to their expiry date. Application for extension of employment visas requires a sponsorship letter from the University to certify the employment status of the staff in question.
