CUHK Newsletter No. 148 19th June 1999 5 宣 布 事 項 ANNOUNCEMENTS 長假代金 Payment in Lieu of Long Leave 合資格按「一九九零年長假安排」領取長假代金的 教職員，請於本月三十一日前將本年暑假期間的假期申 請經部門主管送交人事處，俾可準確計算所得代金，並 如往年般隨七月份之薪金發放。 人事處將不會書面知會個別同人的長假代金或假期 餘額，查詢請致電內線七二九一或七二九二，又或電郵 Personnel-6@cuhk.edu.hk 。 Under the 1990 long leave scheme, eligible staff members will, in accordance with the relevant regulations, receive a payment in lieu of untake n long leave calculated as at 30th June 1999 up to a maximum of one month' s salary. Payment wil l be made in their July 1999 payroll. To facilitate the calculation of leave balance, staff member s who intend to take long leave in the summer are requested to submit their leave applications via their unit/department head to the Personnel Office on o r before 30th June 1999. Separate notice on payment details will not be issued to individual staff. En- quiries may be directed to the Personnel Office at Ext. 7291/7292 or via e-mai l to Personnel-6@cuhk.edu.hk . 颱風襲港及暴雨的有關安排 General Arrangements for Typhoon and Rainstorm Warnings 由行政事務處發出的有關颱風襲港及暴雨之安排通告，已由新聞及公共關係處 於一九九九年六月六日連同《校園活動一覽》一併派發，同人如未收到該份通告，可 致電新聞及公共關係處（內線八八九九）索取。 A circular on general arrangements during the approach of typhoons an d the hoisting of rainstorm warnings, issued by the Office of the Director of Administrative Services, was sent to various units as an attachment to Campus Events on 6th June 1999. The following are some of its details: 1. No new systems are to be introduced one month before an d after 1st January 2000 in order to help isolate and resolve problems relate d to Y2K if any should arise. 2. No professional staff and technical staff should take leave during the first two weeks of the year 2000 as they will need to b e on stand-by. 3. A full backup will be performed for all data before the turn of the millennium . 4. Comprehensive systems checking will be performed between 31st December 1999 and 2nd January 2000. In order to carry out the final full backup and the comprehensive system s checking, it is inevitable that the systems will be shut down occasionally. Details o f downtime will be announced before lat e November through the Y2K homepage (http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/y2k) , CSC/ITSU Digest (http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/csc/ digest), and the CUHK Newsletter. Software Y2K Compliance Status In addition, we are in the process of gradually confirming tha t all the software we manage on campus is Y2K compliant with the software vendors. We expect this process to be completed by late July. We are going to announce the Y2K compliance status of the software through our websites and newsletters between no w and end of July 1999. However, if you are using softwar e that is not supplied by us, and if you are unsure of its Y2K compliance status, please consul t us as soon as possible, before any problem becomes 'non-fixable' du e to the lack of time! It will be a great opportunity for those wh o are interested in but have had little experience i n producing and publishing webpages. The course's different sessions will demonstrate how t o produce webpages with Microsoft FrontPage and HTML, create graphics or animations with Adobe PhotoShop and GIF Construction, and how to publish using Netscape Composer an d so on. The sessions include: • Simple Webpages Design Using Authoring Tools; • HTML Fundamental; • HTML Advanced Techniques; • Graphics Fundamental; • Graphics Advanced Techniques; and • Successful Webpages Design .
