Prof. Pang Sun-keung (Hong Kong Institute of Educational Research) Service to the Community and International Organizations • Prof. Liu Pak-wai, pro-vice-chancellor, was appointed as a member of the Economic Advisory Committee of the HKSAR Government from 1st June 2000 to 31st December 2001. • Prof. Chung Yue-ping, professor in the Department of Educational Administration and Policy, was appointed a member of the Education Commission from 1st July 2000 to 30th June 2001. Prof. Chung was also appointed as an ex officio member of the Advisory Committee on Teacher Education and Qualifications (ACTEQ) of the HKSAR Government for two years from 29th May 2000. • Prof. Chan Wing-wah, professor in the Department of Music, was appointed by the Chief Executive of the HKSAR as a Justice of the Peace from 1 st July 2000, and re-appointed as a member of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council from 1st July 2000 to 31 st December 2001. Prof. Chan also conducted the Hong Kong Oratorio Society and the HK Sinfonietta for the 250th Anniversary Concert of J.S. Bach on 10th June 2000 at the Cultural Centre Concert Hall. • Prof. Chan Ying-keung, professor in the Department of Sociology, was re-appointed as a member of the Statistics Advisory Board for two years from 1st June 2000. • Prof. Paul Brian McGuinness, associate professor in the Department of Finance, was appointed as a member of the Advisory Committee on Human Resources Development in the Financial Services Sector for two years from 1st June 2000. • Prof. Chan Kai-ming, professor of orthopaedics and traumatology, was appointed by the Hong Kong Sports Development Board as a member of the Hong Kong Sports Institute Trust Fund Committee of Trustees from 31st May 2000 to 31st March 2002. • Prof. Dennis Lam Shun-chiu, professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, has been appointed as a member of the Medical Council for three years from 1st October 2000. • Prof. Kong Yun-cheung, Director of School of Chinese Medicine, was appointed as member of the Chinese Cuisine Training Institute Training Board from 26th May 2000 to 31st December 2001. • Prof. Ching Pak-chung, professor of electronic engineering, was appointed as a member of the Disciplinary Tribunal Panel established under the Electricity Ordinance for three years from 21st M y 2000. • Prof. Diana Lee, associate professor in the Department of Nursing, was invited by St. James' Settlement of Hong Kong to be a member of the Advisory Committee for Residential Services from 9th March 1999. She was also appointed by the Nursing Council as a member of the working group on the review of the Code of Professional Conduct for Nurses in Hong Kong from 14th September 1999, as well as a member of the working group on Syllabus Review [Registered Nurse (General)] from 5th November 1999. • Mrs. Clara Lee, Director of Student Affairs, was re-appointed by the Secretary for Education and Manpower as the institutional representative of CUHK in the Joint Committee on Student Finance from 1st May 2000 to 30th April 2001. • Prof. Christopher W.K. Lam, professor in the Department of Chemical Pathology, was appointed as president of the Asian and Pacific Federation of Clinical Biochemistry from 11th June 2000. • Prof. Dennis Y.M. Lo, associate professor in the Department of Chemical Pathology, was awarded the Professors' Prize in Clinical Biochemistry by the British Association of Clinical Biochemists. • Prof. Wong Tze-wai, professor in the Department of Community and Family Medicine, was invited by the president of the Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences to be visiting professor of environmental and occupational medicine for two years from May 2000. • Prof. Anthony P.C. Yim, associate professor in the Department of Surgery, has been invited to be visiting professor of thoracic surgery to Stanford University from 2nd to 10th February 2001.
