宣 布 事項 ANNOUNCEMENTS 新任講座教授 Professorial Appointment 大 學 委 任 林 清 隆 博 士 為 光 子 學 講 座 教 授 ， 任 期 由 二 零 零 三 年 一 月 七 日 起 生 效。 林 教 授 一 九 六 七 年 台 灣 大 學 畢 業 後 ， 到 美 國 深 造 ， 先 後 於 一 九 七 零 及 七 三 年 獲 授 伊 利 諾 大 學 理 學 碩 士 和 柏 克 萊 加 州 大 學 哲 學 博 士 學 位。 林 教 授 七 四 年 起 加 入 貝 爾 實 驗 室 工 作 ， 開 展 有 關 光 纖 和 光 波 通 訊 的 基 礎 與 應 用 研 究 ； 八 六 年 起 出 任 貝 爾 通 訊 研 究 公 司 的 寬 頻 光 波 系 統 研 究 主 管 ； 九 七 年 起 出 任 多 間 公 司 的 主 席 、 行 政 總 裁 兼 技 術 總 裁。 林 教 授 經 常 出 席 國 際 會 議 ， 並 應 邀 主 持 學 術 講 座 。 他 是 多 種 學 術 期 刊 的 編 委 顧 問 或 副 編 輯 ， 亦 為 多 個 學 術 組 織 的 院 士 ， 包 括 電 機 及 電 子 工 程 師 學 會 和 中 華 光 電 學 等。 Prof. Chinlon Lin has been appointed professor of photonics from 7th January 2003. Prof. Lin obtained his BSEE from Taiwan University in 1967, his MS from the University of Illinois in 1970, and his Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley in 1973. Prof. Lin joined AT&T Bell Laboratories as a member of its technical staff in 1974 and subsequently served as director of Broadband Lightwave Systems Research, Bellcore, New Jersey; director of Lightwave Technologies and technical director of Forward-Looking Work Tyco Telecom Labs, New Jersey; and chairman, president and CEO, and chief technical officer at Jedai Broadband Networks, New Jersey. Before joining the University, he was president and CEO and chief technical officer of BeLight Inc. Prof. Lin has been a fellow of IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society since 1991 and of the Optical Society of America since 1983. 強積金強制性供款新例 Amendments to Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Legislation 根 據 強 積 金 修 訂 條 例 ， 僱 員 的 強 制 性 供 款 入 息 下 限 將 由 四 千 元 改 為 五 千 元 。 由 二 零零三年二月一日起，月入少於五千元的僱員，毋須供款。 According to the amendments to MPFS legislation, the salary threshold for making employee contributions has been raised from $4,000 to $5,000. During her visit, Prof. Chen will give a public lecture at the College Assembly, the College Life Luncheon Talk, the Theology Building Talk, and participate in Tolo Nocturne. Education Conference 2002-3 Chung Chi College's Annual Education Conference 2002-3 w i l l be held from 10.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. at L i Koon Chun Hall, Sino Building, on 15th February 2003. The theme of the conference is 'Tradition and Creation: the Artist's View' and the four panel speakers are Prof. Chen Yi, Mr. Ko Tin Lung, director of Chung Ying Theatre, Mr. Fruit Chan, film director, and Ms. Mui Cheuk-yin, choreographer. It is now managed by five CUHK alumni. In addition to a large variety of regular beverages, there are also Taiwanese drinks, desserts, and special delicacies. Function rooms with hi-fi facilities are available for hire to CUHK associations, staff, students, and alumni.
