Thirty-two business leaders, al l alumni o f the University's M BA and EMBA Programmes occupying the top echelons of management in the public and private sectors, have committed t o be mentors o f the M B A students. Mr. Armstrong Lee, managing director of Worldwide Human Capital Consulting Ltd. an d principal architect of the mentorship programme, said that the programme is a crucial complement to classroom teaching as i t brings a real-life dimension t o the M B A curriculum. Himself an alumni, he said that these mentors are eager t o help CUHK nurture future business leaders. ‘ I am particularly touched t o see the large number o f Star A l umni who are willing t o take on this responsibility amidst their tight schedules. I t i s our contribution t o our alma mater and a great way t o strengthen the bond among the CUMBA family,' he said. Armstrong Lee, Worldwide Human Capital Consulting Ltd., a t the launch o f the mentorship programme EMO Certifie d I SO 900 1Complian t T he University's Estates Management Office (EMO) was awarded the certificate o f compliance t o th e IS O 9001:2000 quality management system standards i n July 2003 after passing the ISO 9001 certification audit. The EMO began critically reviewing it s service quality an d embarking on the ISO 9001 quality management system last year. Preparation fo r setting u p the ISO system began wi th a complete revisit o f its operations and the definition o f its quality policy and targets with a focus on meeting customer expectations and enhancing their satisfaction. The procedures o f service delivery were then revamped and records of completion documented for future periodic audit o f compli ance. The EMO periodically organizes opinion surveys t o collect feedback from staff and students on its services. Better Waste Management for a Better Environment F our experts shared their experience i n solid wastes and sustainable waste management i n Hong Kong a t a workshop entitled 'Waste Reduction, Recycling, and Sustainable Waste Management i n Hong Kong' o n 17th October a t the Esther Lee Building. Dr. Lawrence Wong, principal environmental protection officer o f the HKSAR Government, Mr . Leung Pui-lun, chairman of the Hong Kong General Association of Re-cycling Business, Mr. Lau Che- feng, assistant director o f Friends o f the Earth, and Prof. Poon Chi-sun o f the Department o f Civil and Structural Engineering o f Hong Kong Polytechnic University, spoke t o 120 secondary and university students, teachers, researchers, and professionals a t th e workshop organized b y th e Centre fo r Environmental Policy and Resource Management o f the University and sponsored by the Environment and Conservation Fund o f the Environmental Campaign Committee. Opening remarks were delivered by Prof. Chau Kwai-cheong, director of the University's Centre for Environmental Policy and Resource Management. We are sailing, We are Sailing... T welve members of the University's New Water Sports Centre took part in th e annual International H K Open Sailing Regatta organized b y the Hong Kong Yachting Association a t L i t t le Palm Beach, Sai Kung, between 12t h and 14th September. A total o f 70 boats participated i n 12 races. The University's chief sailing instructor Ms. Janet Lau and her crew Ms. G o Mu i came first overall i n th e international ladies 470 class.
