優化研究素質學術研討會 Prof. Jennifer Kelsey 與社區及家庭醫學系何陳雪鸚教授 研究資助局研究生會議委員會及香港流行病學會合辦的周 年學術研討會「優化研究素質」，於去年十一月二十二日在公 共衛生學院舉行。美國史丹福大學榮譽教授 P r o f . Jennifer K e l s e y 講解及分析如何判斷數據和優化研究素質； Wa k e Forest University 醫學院 Prof. Nancy Av i s 講解可以提高研究 素質的最新質量及數量結合研究技術。 本校臨床試驗中心統籌徐仲锳教授在會上分析科研的專業 道德因素，社區及家庭醫學系兼任教授吳錦祥醫生則檢視醫 學實驗及觀察研究的根據與假設之分別，及其對分析實證醫 學的重要。 社會研究入門講座 社會學系去年十一月十五日在逸夫書院舉辦「社會研究入 門」學生講座系列之「擬定研究題目細節」及教師研討會，促 進中學高級補充程度通識教育科的發展。 學生講座由該系蔡玉萍教授（圖）主講，讓約三百名中六學 生了解擬定社會研究題目的步驟和當中的困難。教師研討會由 該系趙永佳教授及課程發展處高級課程發展主任黃志堅先生主 持，有二十多名教師參加。上述講座及研討會的資料已上載於 該系的「通識教育資源網」（ http://liberalstudies.hk.st/) 。有關「問 卷調查」和「研究報告撰寫」的學生講座將於二月和三月舉行。 婦女健康研討會 婦女健康促進及研究中心去年 十一月廿三日在醫學院深造中心繼 昌堂舉辦第二屆婦女健康研討會， 主題為「提升生活質素：健康的婦 女與社會」，由來自美國、北京及 香港的學者，跟與會者分享他們對 婦女健康、疾病、藥物及生活素質 的知識及經驗。 宣 布 事 項 ANNOUNCEMENTS 新任工程學院院長 New Dean of Engineering 訊息工程學講座教授任德盛教授當選新一任工程學院院長，任期三年，由二零 零四年一月一日起生效。 Prof. Peter Yum Tak-shing, professor of information engineering, has been elected the new dean of engineering for three years from 1st January 2004. 提前發放薪金 Advancement of Salary Pay Date 二零零四年一月份之薪金將提前於一月二十日（星期二)發放，查詢請聯絡薪津 及公積金組（電話：二六零九七二四零/七二四六）。 The salary payment date for January 2004 w i ll be advanced to 20th January 2004 (Tuesday).
