King, the Vice-Chancellor, w i ll retire from the University at the end of June 2004. During his 34 years of distinguished service, Prof. King has made significant contributions to the development of the University. As a tribute to the retiring Vice- Chancellor, a farewell dinner w i ll be held in his honour on Saturday, 26th June 2004 at 7.30 p.m. at the Grand Ballroom of Hotel Conrad Hong Kong. Sociology Departmental Seminar A seminar on 'The Global Transformations and the Rising Force of Transparency: A Sociological Analysis' w i l l be given by Prof. Burkart Holzner, distinguished service professor of international studies and professor of sociology and public and international affairs, emeritus, University o f Pittsburgh, at 4.30 p.m. on 3rd May in Room 422 (Conference Room) on the fourth floor of the Sino Building. The target is HK$700,000 and the proceeds will be allocated in the ratio of 7:3 to the following projects: Project I: To support the CUHK Institute of Human Communicative Research in conducting hearing tests and providing hearing aids for the elderly in Hong Kong, and to finance part of the construction costs of a new Hearing Aid Laboratory. Project II: To support the CUHK Institute of Chinese Medicine in conducting clinical research on the effect of a newly developed anti-flu prescription for elderly people. The movie to be premiered is Jet Lag, a delightful French romantic comedy directed by Dani è le Thompson, and starring diva and maestro of the silver screen, Juliette Binoche ( The EnglishPatient), and Jean Reno (Leonthe Professional). Tickets are sold at HK$500 or $1 ， 000 each. Staff and students are welcome to purchase tickets for the movie and support this fund-raising project.
