Lee, professor in the Nethersole School of Nursing, has been appointed by the Secretary for Home Affairs as a member of the Public Affairs Forum for one year from 1st May 2005. • Prof. Lee Lai Chun Hing Annisa, assistant professor in the School of Journalism and Communication, has been appointed by the Secretary for Education and Manpower as a member of the Mass Communications Training Board of the Vocational Training Council from 15th April 2005 to 31st March 2 0 0 7 . • Prof. L in Hui, professor in the Department of Geography and Resource Management, has been appointed a member of the Expert Committee of the National Remote Sensing Center by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China for four years from 1st January 2005. Prof. L i n has also been invited to be a member of the Academic Committee (first session) of the Digital China Research Institute, Peking University, for three years f r om 18th December 2004. Award • Prof. L i m in Yang, research assistant professor in the Joint Laboratory for Geoinformation Science has been awarded, as a co-author of the Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) 2005 Best Scientific Paper in Geographic Information Science. The award was presented at the 2005 Ame r i c an So c i e ty f or Ph o t o g r amme t ry and Remote Sensing annual meeting in Maryland, USA, on 9th March 2005. The research paper is titled 'Development of a 2001 National Land Cover Database for the United States', Photogrammetric Engineering and Remote Sensing, 70 (7), 829-840.
