He had worked for the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry and the University of Southern California prior to joining The Chinese University. 腫瘤學講座教授 Professor of Clinical Oncology 大學委任陳德章教授為腫瘤學講座教授，任期由二零零六年八月一 日起生效。 陳教授於一九九八年獲本校頒授醫學博士學位，曾於英國行醫，一 九九四年加入本校服務。 Prof. Anthony Chan Tak-cheung has been appointed professor of clinical oncology from 1st August 2006. Prof. Chan obtained his MD from CUHK in 1998. He had practised in the UK prior to joining The Chinese University in 1994. 管理學講座教授 Professor of Management 大學委任羅勝強教授為管理學講座教授，任期由二零零六年九月一 日起生效。 羅教授於一九九零年取得愛荷華大學哲學博士學位，曾於美國和澳 洲任教，加入本校服務前，為香港科技大學商學院教授。 Prof. Kenneth S. Law has been appointed professor of management from 1st September 2006. Prof. Law obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa in 1990. Chung, Director, Dr. Tien Chang Lin Technology Innovation Foundation Limited CUHK Faculty of Education Chosen as First Associated International Site of the National Writing Project Innovation Foundation Limited, an additional two million Hong Kong dollars has been secured to enable the WrITE Project to continue to enhance the teaching and learning of English in Hong Kong. The National Writing project (NWP) is a network of 195 university-affiliated sites acrosstheU.S.withselectedinternational partnerships. Administered out of the Graduate School of Education at U.C. Berkeley, the mission of the project is to improve the teaching and learning of writing in English in schools by recognizing the primary importance of teacher knowledge, expertise and T he WrITE Project (Writing for Integrated Teacher Education) of the Faculty of Education, CUHK, has been chosen as the First Associated International Site of the National Writing Project (NWP) worldwide. To commemorate this event, Dr. Paul LeMahieu, Director of Research and Evaluation of the National Writing Project, U.C. Berkeley, awarded a plaque toDr. BarleyMak, Director of the WrITE Project, during the graduation ceremony of the Summer Institute 2006 held on 28th July 2006. Mak, as Emeritus Professor of Chemistry ( left ); and • Prof. Robert Leslie Jones, as Emeritus Professor of Pharmacology ( right ). 新任講座教授 Professorial Appointments 化學講座教授 Professor of Chemistry 大學委任謝作偉教授為化學講座教授，任期由二零零六年八月一日 起生效。 謝教授於一九九零年取得柏林工業大學和上海有機化學研究所共同 頒發的哲學博士學位，曾於上海有機化學研究所和南加州大學從事 研究工作，一九九五年加入本校服務。 Prof. Xie Zuowei has been appointed professor of chemistry from 1st August 2006. leadership. The WrITE Project in Hong Kong, sponsored by the Dr. Tien Chang Lin Technology Innovation Foundation Limited and under the leadership of Dr. Barley Mak from the Faculty of Education, while embracing the philosophy of the US NWP, also adapts and adopts the NWP model to suit the local English language teaching community. Twenty-six primary and secondary school teachers took part in the fourth Summer Institute 2006 held from 17th to 28th July 2006. Two major highlights of Summer Institute 2006 included the Assess- ment for Writing Workshop and the Writer’s Festival 2006. The Assessment for Writing Workshop discussed approaches in supporting teachers as they help their students improve their writing standards in preparation for the local writing assessments. The Writer’s Festival 2006, partici- pated in by six secondary schools, 10 teachers and over 80 Secondary 3 students, aimed at providing training to English language teachers through the execution of a given set of lesson plans on how to teach English in the precepts of School-Based Assessment (SBA). Participants learned how to design writing materials and, in the course of peer observation, conducted a writing project as a Language Arts programme.
